You may want to create a part for green finish, a part for red finish, both
are made from the same subpart.
Or you may want the revision history on the drawing so if you went back to
revision A, and all parts linked to the same drawing you would know to
process these as green and not red.

You make it sound like he doesn't want to make it work regardless.

In addition to your suggestion you could also leave a more detailed trail of
revisions in the part description. Nice added bonus is that this is
searchable as well...

Subject: [Vantage] How to Handle Revisions of parts and Drwgs
Hello all, we are in the process of ISO registration, and a part of
it is keeping a history of all things.
We have a few clients who, from time to time, revise their parts, but
want to be able to go back to the older revision at any time, as
well as job/part revisions we also are trying to keep a drawing
history.
I suggested to him, that we should use a different part number when
the client wants to make changes, but still wants to be able to go
back to the original part (example: the part/job uses all the same
materials as well as the same methods of prodicing, but they want it
to now be in Green, but we have red, but want to be able to go back
to Green at any time)
I als pointed him to the Advanced BOM, and the Where Used report, and
showed him the part maintainence area which lists revisions.
as for Drawings there is a similar scenario, I have also pointed him
to part maintainencs, as well as the QA module where he can find a
bunch of similar things.
He said that these things did not include what he wanted, He wants a
place where he can look at a list of all parts and revisions, as well
as the same for Drawings.
I offered to make a simple report with Report Builder that would List
these things (at least any that are in the database correctly) He is
not sure if that would be adequate.
So now he is trying to devise a plan to make and keep a Hard copy of
all of this imformation, and not use Vantage to do this.
oh, the He is our QA Manager,
Has anyone used vantage 4 to accomplish the revision usage I just
described. If I have not described this properly, let me know and I
will try to clear it up
