How to link jobs?

Job Qty (demand linking: to stock, to order, or to another job) is fundamental to the job entity schema in vantage so I'd be shocked if it were APS dependent.

Don't be deluded into thinking just because the jobs are linked though that the global will schedule them in the needed dependent system. Unless you mark a material (one of your sub jobs) as constrained (which MAY be an APS option), the global is just a dumb scheduler that isn't considering material availabity.

I wouldn't recommend contraining materials anyway as it does not give good results with scheduling... Much like 'minimize WIP', it tends to make ALL jobs go late as Vantage's claimed APS is not real APS - material planning (MRP) and scheduling (global) are two seperate batch processes. (APS is a single pass material & scheduling plan engine in its true form like you'd find in Lilly's VISUAL product).

Yes I have thought of that but the issue is that Job A needs to be
done before Job B can be released, but we want this to be an
automatic thing. So for instance, both of the part masters can have
an approved routing and the jobs can be linked somehow. I think this
can be done in APS, but can it be done without APS?

Is there a way to do job-to-job linking in V8.03.406 without APS? We
are trying a new idea to split some work out of one job and do it on
two jobs, but the first job must be done before the 2nd job can be
started. Also, we want to be able to still schedule and order material
for the 2nd job before the first job is complete. I have read that APS
in 6.1 can do this, but haven't heard much good about APS in V8. Any
thoughts?
You can make a Bill of Material (BOM) do that. Just set up the job and have different resources do part of the job. If you are transfering the Job to another facility you can make the second job a Subcontract resource.

Look at the Engineering Workbench and look at how many ways to setup a BOM.

Any
thoughts?
