How to Ship & Backorder Kit Parts?

I like the additional packing slip report idea. Our shipper can use the BOM printed on the packing slip to confirm the component shipping quantity. It might work best with a dot matrix printer and carbon copies. While we can declare in Vantage that we shipped X sets complete, we could write in the backordered component quantity on the carbon form. If a backorder occurs, one copy would be sent back to sales for issuing a zero cost sales order for the missing parts. Another copy would be required to perform the miscellaneous adjustment on the backordered material inventory.

This packing slip report would have to read from the ABOM tables and the Job Traveler tables, since we ship from inventory and from jobs.

Is anyone doing a similar procedure? Any other comments?

The job traveller should act as the pick list. The sub-assemblies need to be
issued to the job. You can then create another packing slip report (in
report builder if you do not have an ODBC driver) that incorperates the
JobAsmbl table (you will also need the JobProd table).

This however will not solve the back-issue problem.
