We are in the process of upgrading from 2022 to 2025.
As part of that, we will be moving to the Kinetic UI.
Right now, we exclusively use Classic.
I’ve been trying to understand the process for making screens open in the Kinetic UI, but I can’t seem to figure it out. I’m sure I’m missing something.
How do you switch screens from opening in Classic to the Kinetic UI?
The quickest way to see only the Kinetic UI is to use the browser.

IIf you have classic screen customizations, you’ll have to redo those. If there is code in your screens, you have to move that out to an Epicor Function potentially.
From the Kinetic side, this is available( Menu Maintenance). Form to Use options are User Choice, Classic, and Kinetic. Not sure how conflicts are resolved…? Menu Maint= Kinetic, User Pref Classic
Based on my own experience, what @SLC showed is the most reliable. We went through the upgrade to Kinetic recently, but our choice was to stay Classic screens (for now). It is tough to make the screens NOT use Kinetic by default actually. So you should be good.
So it sounds like it’s a menu item by menu item if you are still using the desktop client. I wasn’t sure if there was a screen that I was missing that would allow a more macro approach.
Make sure your users know that running Kinetic in the classic client is slower than running in the browsers. This makes sense because you’re launching a client that embeds a browser. Also, there have been some posts here lately that running the same command in the client might work differently than running directly in the browser. This is because that the embedded browser in the client isn’t optimized like Chrome or Edge.
If you want to force your users to start using the browser for any Kinetic enabled UX, you can follow my post here. All we have left is the BAQ, Functions, BPM designers where those are set to “User Choice”. If the user opens one of those in the smart client, it opens in classic. If they open in the browser it uses the new preview designers if they want to make their life difficult.
The screenshot I showed above, if you select Kinetic, it applies to everything, so you would only need to set it there. But if you want everyone to use the Kinetic UI, it’s better to use the browser, it’s noticeably faster than using the desktop client. It’s also easier with updating; there’s no need for everyone’s client to have to be updated every time you update Kinetic.
