We just spent quite a long time trying to figure out why a setup for a job wasn’t working. We finally figured out the issue it was a conflict in our configuration and while this feature is documented it was incredibly hard to find. Wouldn’t it be useful if there was an LLM trained on all the Epicor Kinetic documentation available and it would allow us to have a friendly chat with it to find answers?
ChatGPT says you can already do it. ![]()
Yes, in Epicor ERP, it is possible to automatically receive materials from a job using a Process Component ID (PCID). The PCID is a unique identifier associated with a specific component within a manufacturing process.
To auto-receive materials from a job with a PCID in Epicor ERP, you would typically follow these general steps:
-
Setup: Ensure that your Epicor system is configured properly to utilize PCIDs and enable automatic receiving.
-
Create Work Orders: Generate work orders for the job that requires the components to be received.
-
Associate Components with PCIDs: During the creation of the work order, or prior to it, ensure that the components required for the job are associated with their respective PCIDs.
-
Work Order Processing: As the work order progresses and components are consumed, the system should automatically track the usage of components associated with PCIDs.
-
Auto-Receive: Once the components are consumed in the manufacturing process and the job is completed, Epicor ERP can be configured to automatically receive these components based on the PCIDs associated with them.
-
Verification and Adjustment: It’s important to verify the received quantities against the actual usage and adjust any discrepancies if necessary.
-
Reporting and Analysis: Utilize Epicor ERP’s reporting and analysis tools to track component usage, inventory levels, and job completion status.
The specifics of how to configure auto-receiving with PCIDs may vary depending on the version of Epicor ERP you are using and your specific business requirements. It’s recommended to consult Epicor documentation or reach out to Epicor support for detailed guidance tailored to your setup.
Wait, that’s incorrect though, isn’t it? You can’t auto receive and PCID, or at least, not the last time I checked. Haven’t tried it in the most recent Kinetic yet.
You are correct, and why we would need Epicor to build it. Feeding in the source code and helper docs would probably help. (although I suspect it will still confidently give out erroneous information)
It doesn’t even know what PCID stands for.
My vote comes with a caveat. Kinetic must be complete, functioning properly, and documented accurately before the LLM is trained on the documentation. Otherwise, the output would be as useless as instructions from ChatGPT! ![]()
So you’re voting no then?
Kinetic will never be complete.
Kinetic will never be fully functioning properly.
Documented accurately… yeah…
Can we feed it the docs, and the source code and have it look for places where they don’t match? That would be awesome!
