Imaging My New Dell PCs

Joe,

Unatended is a nice flexible solution but it does take some time to
understand and deploy.

If it is just 14 machines all the same configuration, use disk imaging
as this will be faster to deploy and manage, just ensure you use the
sysprep tool

Hi Stephen,

I'm starting to read about Unattended right now and I came across the
line: "If you are cranking out thousands of identical workstations with
completely identical hardware and software, imaging is a fine approach."

The 14 Optiplexs are identical and will be sure for MES/Data Collection
so the software will also be identical.

Do you think in the long run that Unattended would still be a better
option?

Thanks,

Joe Rojas

Hi Joe,

You have a number of options for this:

Norton Ghost (with sysprep ) (there are also free tools)

RIS - Remote installation services (Riprep)

Unattended (http://unattended.sourceforge.net/
<http://unattended.sourceforge.net/>

> )

As your hardware is all the same, disk imaging will not provide you an
issue from the hardware perspective but from a job role perspective it
may, unless everyone has the same configuration. I would really
recommend looking into Unattended which requires a little more initial
work but will pay off.

Stephen Edginton

Hello,

I received my order from Dell for 14 Optiplex PCs and I will like to
have to only setup and configure one and then use its image on the other
13.

I've poked around with creating images in the past but I was wonder what
others have done.

Thanks,
