Import csv file via Service Connect

If you have CRM, there is also a Customer/Contact Import directly from Epicor that uses a .csv file. The file format is available in Help.

Hey folks,

I need to import a whole list of customers from a csv file via Service Connect. However, I have never used service connect although it is all setup from my predecessor - is this something straight forward?

I have also looked into the DMT - would this be easier? Is the license expensive for the DMT?

Regards,

Michael
Service Connect is pretty simple. If you've got it already it's really not
worth the trouble/expense of acquiring another tool.

A tip though, when you setup your import, make sure you put a limit on the
number of threads it starts. If you let it try to import everything
asynchronously it can destroy your performance.

That's the way to do it, other than having the DMT tool., you could also
try to use an updatable BAQ (if you are on 9.05) What version are you on?

Sorry, not laughing at you.... Service Connect is *anything* but straightforward. That’s why I avoid it like the ghetto.

If you’re SQL, I have some import scripts you could use or get ideas from. Otherwise, DMT is more straightforward. Not that Service Connect can’t do what you want, but (for me) creating a Workflow to import 1000 customers takes longer than if I just would have manually typed them all in. There’s 3 things I’m not a fan of: NY Sports teams, my wife’s cooking and Service Connect.

Service Connect is a great tool, but as with all tools, it has applications it’s really good at, and applications it’s not (or it’s overkill). With a one-time import of customers, I think SC is overkill – DMT is your best option. I would not recommend writing directly to the DB.

DMT is a great tool where if you have the correct column name in your .csv or spreadsheet, and then you click a button to upload the data into Epicor.

Not every file is available at the different version levels, so at 8.03.xx you might not be able to import/update as many files as at the latest version. We are at version 9.05.605 and I have noticed there are a lot more file layouts available to use DMT.

We use DMT for 1-time, or occaisional updates, and use service connect if the data is updated on a regular basis.
