Increase of -L Causes (1432) error

Thad,
We've had the -L up to as high as 60,000 without any adverse effects in 5.0. This was before they fixed the record-lock problem while doing cost set entry. I never needed to change it in 3.0 that I can recall.

Subject: [Vantage] Increase of -L Causes (1432) error

Hello All,

We're running Vantage 3.0 / Progress 8.3A.

Yesterday we tried to get the details of a BOM into the job module that
contains over 1700 parts, most of those parts having multiple operations,
etc... During the transfer, the computer we got a -L error. So I came in
this morning, and attempted to increase our -L from 10000 to 15000, and
though the database seemed to start fine, there was a (1432) database
connectivity error when a user tried to log on.

Exchange is running on the same server, so we stopped that and tried to
increase the -L again.

Our current startup.pf settings are:

-L 10000 -n 30

My question is, why would increasing the Lock Table amount (-L) produce a
1432 connectivity error, and what can I do in order to increase that amount?

For now we are going to work around the problem, and get the details of the
large machine into the job module in segments, instead of doing it all at
once, but we'd like not to have to do so.

Thanks in advance,

Thaddeus

Thad,

Somewhere in the knowledgebase is a tech article that tells you to increase
your -L parameter by multiples of some number. Of course I can't remember
that number, but our last -L for 3.0/8.3A was 25200. I doubt this is what
is causing the problem, but it might be worth a try.
