Inserting inspection special characters

Progress uses a defined font for each widgit (text field/browser/etc) on the
screen. These are defined at startup from an INI setting (Vantage.INI)
under the [fonts] section you have font##=........ You could edit the one
that is for the text field of the job, but it could have major impacts
across the whole Vantage. The other thing you could do is to use VB-Form
and setup a specific field that would contain your character text (in
courier or what ever font vantage has defined). Then setup you Crystal
traveler to print the text for that VBform field using your custom font.

An example would be the true position character which is a circle with a
cross thru it or maximum material condition character which is an M with
a circle around it. I have installed special fonts on my workstation and
can create the symbols in notepad, but when I insert the file into the
job oper comment it reverts back to courier font.

Our production manager would like to have inspection special characters
printed on the router. Is there a way to insert special characters into
job operation comments and have them print on the router?

One possibility is using a WINGDING font. If your character is not in
that set you can get a cheap font editor and create your own. You need
to be sure that the altered font is on any machine that might print the
traveler.

Expanding on Shirley's thought a bit....
Entry of oper comments via standard Vantage screens could be limited in what font you can use and how it is stored in DB....but...maybe you could have users enter a prefix-postfix character meant only for the special characters then in Crystal seach for it and substitute ASCII character codes (I don't have a clue what codes) to invoke a different font or tell the specific printer to use a different built-in character set, then more codes to revert back to normal text. So in the text something like [[ would mean start of special code and ]] the end and searching for [[ or ]] would trigger test substitutions. It would be a snap in Crystal of the location of the special characters was constant and your could break the oper comments into distinct sections.

Kathy,

If you are using the Crystal traveler. I would think that you could create
and image file of the characters you need. And then insert the image file
into the report. I have never actually tried this

Have fun!
