Install Vantage Client 6.1

In summary,

1. On the server Map the same drive letter to the same server
share (Epicor) as you would on the client. (Even though it's on the
same server, it will allow you to map a drive to a share on the same
server)

2. Install the client the same way you do on a workstation using
the same mapped drive letter that you do on the client. Use the same
working directory you use on the client.

3. DO NOT install the progress network client as you do on the
workstation. (you don't need the progress network client since you are
on the server)

I have done this many times over on different versions of Vantage that
required a mapped drive letter and am successfully able to run the
client on the server.

Folks,

How do we install Vantage Clients on the Vantage Server. When we tried the
"normal" installation, no one could connect to Vantage. We had to reinstall
the client on a different machine and then everyone could work again. We
are assuming it has something to do with Progress already running on the
server???

Thoughts??? Ideas????

Thanks again in advance!

Tricia,

It's been a while since I worked with this, but I recall these same issues.
I believe it had to do with drive mappings, and something using a common
config file. If it's similar to what I was doing, you'd install on the
server and the clients would stop working, then reinstall on a client and
the server version would stop.

For example, if you specify locations while installing on the server of
"C:", that's saved in this common config file. However, when the clients
were installed, they're going to a mapped drive (something other than C).
If it's got some settings where the client is looking at its own C: drive
instead of the network location, it won't work.

Unfortunately, it's been a long time, I don't remember what the particular
settings were that caused this issue. I remember our solution was to map
the same drives on the server that the clients used, then when installing
the client on the server, during the installation when prompted for
locations, have it point to the common mapped drive, not the local drives.

If you find the same thing, you should post what that setting is here for
future reference.

Hope that helps.

No, what's happened is that you've specified an install location on the
server that is different from the client locations. When you install
the Vantage client, you make entries to the mfgsys.ini file.

To install the Vantage client on the server, just map the same drive
locations as the clients use and you'll be fine.
