Brandon,

Just a thought, but you may check to see if your server is out of
available licenses. I've come across this problem twice in the last two
weeks and the symptoms you describe sound similar.

I removed the computer off the domain and added back on which gave me
the access I needed to re-install the mfgsysclient.exe. However, it
gives me an error about being unable to connect
X:\mfgsys61\Vantage.MFG. Out of 30 computers linked to vantage, this
is the only one that is giving me trouble, this morning I come in to
expect the same error, however, it's again dropped me from the
network. X// is no longer accessible. All my shared drives are no
longer accessible. This is weird and I am not sure what to do about it.

All my mapped drives went poof, and they icons that were once there
changed to no icons. I get a error you cannot connect because there is
a duplicate name exists on the network. I changed the name like the
error suggests, however we still have the problem, is there anyway, I
could remove the messed up vantage install on the client computer and
re-install it? Or is there another way to fix this issue.
1st guess would be they are logged in locally and not on the domain - thus treated as a different user profile so no mappings. Can you see rest of network from Windows Explore and access shares there (like Epicor/mfgsys61 folder)?

So you already changed the computer name and removed and re-added to the
domain?

If not, do this and see if that error goes away. Windows is preventing
network access from this computer because of the duplicate name thing.
This will cause the logged in user to create a new profile (hence the
icon messey up thing)

It's a little messy but you can setup "approved" sites in Content Advisor and exclude all else via a bogus rating service. Access to "new" legitimate sites can be granted and added to the list via supervisory password. The bogus rating service can be a short .RAT file saved in System32 folder on the PC. This is a bit more restrictive and more overhead to "allow only" instea dof "block these" but cover all the new ones that will probably pop up. We use this for our self-service HR kiosks on the shop floor. Great for truly limited access users. Not 100% un-hackable but good enough and free. I also block some IP addresses at the firewall level.

I use to use Sonicwall network appliance, very easy to manage.

There are also software solutions, but I've never used any.

I have used SurfControl Webfilter in the past, it is great product but
it is pricy too. It might be more than you are looking for, if you
only want to block certain applications as below.

There is a rule configurator and the database can be updated nightly.

Very powerful functionality and reporting. Integrates with the AD.

If you're not blocking many, you can do as Todd suggested and block these at
your firewall.

You can also block sites at the DNS level by mapping them to 127.0.0.1.

You can use a gateway device (authenticating cache/gateway/proxy) like
Microsoft's ISA, Astaro's or Barracuda's gateway device, the free Squid proxy
server (Linux), Sonic Wall, etc.

You can also use programs like NetNanny or CyberPatrol at each PC, but that's
fairly expensive if you have many users.

Theres all sorts of hacks for any method of course, but a very common
way is via running a proxy server and have all clients go through the
proxy. Every corporation I've ever done work for has used proxy
servers. Some have smart proxies and block on content, as well as
host name, and some on ip address as well (if you block for instance
www.something.com client in many cases can still get there by looking
up ip address first and going to that ip address instead).

What you really need first is a HR / IT policy defining acceptable Internet use at your company. Otherwise, anything you install will probably just be seen as something challenging to hack around.

Windows XP can be a real bugger is W32Time is not setup. Open a command
prompt and type the following:

Net time /setsntp:name of domain controller

This will set the local time of the machine to match to domain
controller. Reboot and let me know...

Just a thought, but you may check to see if your server is out of
