Installing 5.0

Patrick, what I've done in the past is zip up an entire folder to a file and
then remove the contents. After I'm done doing what I needed to do I go
back in and unzip the file back to the directory. This doesn't help with
registry entries being changed. By marking a directory "No Access", some
programs may want to go to that directory to install and then will have
problems because they can't do anything with the directory. I haven't tried
this with 5.0.

Just an idea,

To any NT guru's

Would it be wise when installing 5.0 on the server next to version 4.0 to
first unshare the 4.0 epicor folder, then mark it "NoAccess" to block out
any searching in this area? It seems like when installing any new version of
progress it wants to find an old version to install over, also it always
seems like something ends up pointing from the new version to the old like
the database it's self which happened to me. Also when installing the client
would it be wise to unmap the old drive to the Epicor folder, map the new
drive to epic50, install 5.0 & test, then unmap the epic50 folder, map &
test version 4 again, then test both. This is how I installed my clients, it
seemed to help.

I wish you had suggested these things about a month ago. I installed a patch using the default 3.0 path instead of 4.0 and screwed everything up for a long time.
