Sorry guys, but I was out of pocket for a week. For all our customers
that require samples, we use the subcontract and enter our customers as
also a vendor. That way we don't need a memo shipper.

Our qty is tiny! But we send about as many jobs out per week
for subcontracting
so I understand your situation a little I think.

I would create a sequence in the one traveler (for the one sales
order) for a
"Waiting for approval" . Then I would create one "Vendor"
called "Customer
approval" and use that as my vendor.

The Memo shipper is just a form with ship-to and ship-back-to
type info along
with a description of the item (sort of like a shipper to a sub)
except I
wouldn't enter it into V because it would take too much time
(for nothing
special in return). Its just a document to track the shipments
out to the
customers.

Hope this is of some help.

If you want, call me at 248/852-7310.

Is there anyone in the group who has the necessity to ship parts out for a
customer approval / check over prior to completing subsequent operations on
the job? If so, how do you do it?

We are a Prototyping bureau and having made a master model (SLA) we need the
customer to OK it before we then go to make a mould and replicate parts from
it. The only suggestion I've had from Epicor is that I set-up all of my
customers as Suppliers too and perform a sub-contract operation of
inspection. I do not feel this is an acceptable solution for us.

This is a key operation for us. Any help or comments gratefully received.

Thanks in advance,

Jase

Jason:

Without knowing what kind of volume of customers you have, and how frequently
you must do this (30 x week, 1 x month), you might create a specialized Memo
Shipper to sent and receive the item(s) with, then use the Pack List and Invoice
upon completion.

Ypu could even plug a "Wait" type sequence into your Job Traveler to log the
item to so that Scheduling displays the status.

Works for us, but on a small quantity.

Jason,

When I read your problem and before reading epicor's answer, I would have
given you the same answer. My only question is why couldn't you use the
sub-contract option ?

Calvin / Rick / Jeff,

Thanks for the suggestions.

We ship around 30 interim shipments per week which are checked over by the
customer and returned for us to carry on with the manufacturing process. We
have a client base of over 8,000 with around 2,000 live, so adding each of
them as sub-contractors seems crazy.

Loading the job as an SLA then another job for the RTV seems to involve a
lot of work too. The customer usually orders maybe 4 parts to be made to
their data. I would then need 4 Travellers for the SLA & 4 Travellers for
the RTV. 8 Travellers for one sales order! It is regular with some of our
customers to order 20 parts which are then made into 15 off each - 300
Travellers!

We currently process around 250 orders per month. So assuming 50% customer
approval shipments to be returned, we would be creating a hell of a lot of
travellers.

The memo and / or "Wait" sequence seems interesting, though as we are still
at early days just trying to get the training database up & running how we
want it, I am not 100% how I would implement this. Rick, what sort of number
of shipments is your small quantity?

Hope this extra information may help you to help me.

Need to sit down with my Operations & Sales Directors today to discuss
this!!! :-(

TIA,

Jase
