We handle regular PO's manually, but they only cover about two weeks
of our schedule. One of our customers that we do EDI business with
agreed to send only one part per PO via an 850 EDI. Outside of two
weeks they put it all in one big 830 EDI.
Another customer has a blanket PO and an Excel shipping schedule
file. We do the same with that, remap it and import.
If a planning schedule order gets shipped against by accident, we
will close the order before the next import, tweek the Customer PO
Number and import the batch getting a new (planning) Order.
We own MRP and may look at using the Forecast Import, but are not
sure how this will impact our Sales Backlog and Open Orders reports
in terms of visibility.
With the thousands of release we deal with weekly, our schedulers
save a ton of time using EDI and would not accept anything less.
I did have to write several programs in Progress to accomplish this,
so our situation may differ from yours.
Let me know if you need more.
