Is EUG slow or am I doing it wrong?

At Insights folks were bragging up the EUG site and communities so someone at our org signed up. I finally gave it a try and it seems there is little activity. Am I missing something?

I scarcely hear it mentioned, in fact, I often forget it exists. I’ve never been a member, but I would guess its pretty dead. (EDIT: Specifically the EUG forums. I do hear mention of the meetings/networking being helpful)

We’ve always liked the EUG best for getting to attend local meetings. They have been very useful for connecting with other companies nearby and learning how they are using Epicor.

If Todd Anderson or Shirley Graver could see your reply, they would be dancing a jig!

And if we could get it resuscitated back to life in Aus it would be great.

(Note to self, get off your backside and liaise with Epicor)

Please let’s be kind, the EUG has always been a great supporter of community and their local groups are amazing for creating relationships and sharing peer to peer. I would never want to bash their efforts, our community is better because the EUG exists and they have the resources and the relationships to put on regional shows, sponsor insights and more.

We are all one big happy family

From my perspective, the EUG is an organization built by the users of Epicor and yes the forum can have more engagement from the users, but since the EUG is users helping users I would encourage users to participate in EUG events and join a group.

If at possible try volunteering to help, since groups depend on participation and the best communities are built on encouragement and team cooperation.

I find all sorts of industry knowledge in various places (Epiusers, EUG website, YouTube, webinars from software suppliers, etc).

I know groups are anxious to put on events and if you contact the EUG you can suggest ways to improve the website. I know when I started on Epicor implementation it was a lifeline to a group of people that I appreciate and respect.

Interesting edit there Josh. Feeling a bit intimidated by the scolding about your expression???

I wholeheartedly agree with @Nancy_Hoyt and @swilliasc111. Get involved in a local EUG user group. If you can’t get to Insights, this is the next best thing for less money.

Simple rule: you get out what you put in.

Insights, EUG, EpiUsers, seminars, etc etc etc.

Invest time, reap benefits.

I think it has been true that EUG site has had some bumps along the way. IIRC, the Enhancement site was written by a member and fell into disrepair. EUG members had first dibs on enhancement requests. Epicor Ideas has filled that gap. The EUG had a deal with a site builder, but that organization was purchased, and the new owner didn’t fulfill the original expectation. I think there was an opportunity to have a loose association between the EUG and EpiUsers, but that never materialized due to reasons.

Creating a value proposition is not easy for user groups these days. Apple, Microsoft, and HP crushed their user groups. (Epicor is refreshingly rare in this regard.) But I have heard the same thing that Josh did, and I would agree that the website has not been EUG’s strength. With the proliferation of low-cost/free versions of forum software, it’s very difficult to compete in that arena.

I refused to sign over the rights to my name and likeness. We haggled over a royalty percentage too. :star_struck:

I’m just bitter because I have no local EUG.

^- This! The local EUG meetings are like mini-Insights.

I didn’t see anything remotely local either when I checked in the past. Checking again just now, it kinda looks like their site’s borked. Probably getting the hug of death after being mentioned on epiusers, am I right?

Seriously though, planned events like what EUG does are HARD. Venues are a pain, aren’t free, and then they want you to assume liability for the whole group. Selecting and scheduling speakers is a pain, then one doesn’t show up and you have to figure something out. Group shenanigans and hijinks stop being fun after signing on for liability. It’s really cool that they exist at all!

Ha. Hardly. but I’m new here and I appreciate this site and those of you on it immensely.

so when I wake up in a better mood, and the mod says please be kind, I’m happy to revisit my tone.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I gather it’s more about the meetups than about the site.

It is tough without corporate sponsorship - meaning without Epicor staff at their expense.

Let’s hope they find a way. Long live the meetups!
