Is Service Connect 9 backward compatible?

We are also using the new 9.05.607 Service Connect with our Vantage 8.03.408 installation. It works great. You can take advantage of the multi-threading and the asynchronous features in ESC 9 with Vantage 8. We are doing this for PLM and the dozens of other workflows I have designed.

With my PLM service connect workflows, everything was backwards compatible. Didn’t have any issues. In fact, they ran faster even though they didn’t make use of the new Service Connect ability to hit the .NET objects directly vs. logging into web services for each transaction.

AFAIK, Epicor does NOT support or encourage installing ESC 9 until you migrate to E9. However, I’ve had it running just fine. You just won’t be able to make use of the complete ESC 9 enhancements... like hitting the .NET objects directly.

If you talk to the right people in Epicor, they’ll help you get it installed. It’s fairly easy. If you need the name of “the best” ESC independent consultant out there... let me know.

We are moving from 8.03.305 to 8.03.40x and need to copy our Service Connect workflows to a new server and then point them at the new 8.03.40x database. We are doing this for 2 reasons: I want to make sure everything works before going live and the server currently running SC has a tendancy to lock up and need to be restarted. We are also planning to move to version 9.05 later this year. Can/Should we be installing SC version 9 on the new server or sticking with 8.2 until we move to 9.05?
