Is this just a quiet day or does Yahoo need the Pepto again?

...or just recovering from month end.
I think I managed to keep them from shipping my pens and pencils, but I had
to keep them in my hand all day. :)

.. or due to a lack of sleep last night while migrating from 4.0 to 5.1,
and still working on getting everyone up and running (Citrix users)!

Thanks!

I could use a little help. I have to have extra workstations set up
in the morning for some inventory data entry temps. One of the
workstations is giving me an error: "Unable to find protocol TCP in
file PROTOCOL or PROTOCOL file not found in expected location (5191)"

I have removed Progress, reinstalled progress, removed progress and
all icons and eMan & progress program folders, reinstalled progress,
uninstalled progress again, reinstalled network client, reinstalled
vantage....still the same error...

I can see the mapped drive that Vantage is on in Explorer. I
tried 'ping' servername and got 'bad command', heck I can't even do
that right tonight!

Vantage 5.00.329
Novell client 3.30
Win98 workstations
All 50+ workstations are set up the same. I am probably missing some
little setting somewhere. I appreciate all input, on or off-list.
Thank you! Ann
Ann,
THis sounds like the TCP/IP protocol is not installed. Right click on Net
Neighborhood, select Properties, Scrool the list of installed network
components, If you don't see "TCP/IP-> your network card" you need to install
TCP.

This doesn't sound quite the same, but who knows. It's from Eportal.

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:

I am receiving the following error

"Unable to find server 'xxxx' with protocol TCP in file Services or Services file not found in expected location. (5192)."

'xxxx' represents the name of the object the process is searching for.

PROBLEM RESOLUTION:

This error can occur if you change the TCP address.

PROGRESS error 5192 with NT 4.0
While trying to troubleshoot PROGRESS error 5192: Unable to find server blah with protocol TCP in file Services or Services file not found in expected location. (5192)

1. Check the SERVICES files on this workstation. Make sure it has the correct TCP address.

2. If there is no SERVICES file on the workstation, you must add this file to the workstation.

3. If the entry is indeed on the services file, make sure that if it is the last entry of the services file, that at least one new line exists after it. If the entry doesn't have a new line, winsock will have trouble reading it, and PROGRESS will generate error 5192.

This is a Microsoft behavior, as WinSock.DLL and WSOCK32.DLL is the generic Microsoft components used to perform these lookups. This issue seems to affect both 16-bit and 32-bit PROGRESS clients. If there already is new lines after the last entry of the services file, try to delete it and type it again.
example: (view of service file entries)
rscsb 10011/udp
qmaster 10012/udp
vntgserv 2900/tcp
dwctrain 2910/tcp <--make sure a 'return' was entered after the last entry in the list.
