JDBC versus ODBC

Steve, Thanks for your response. I see from your second message that
you use ODBC in conjunction with JDBC. Does one interfere with the
other? Since Epicor did the install ODBC and the driver set up for
ODBC, and they tell us they have never had a request to use JDBC, I
can't get anyone to confirm that using the two (ODBC and JDBC)
concurrently or using JDBC at all for that matter, will interfere with
our database or our ability to use ODBC as normal. Anything advice or
information you have on your set up would be appreciated.
We are in the process of installing a third party configurator (non-
Epicor product)and planned on reading the customer master via the ODBC
connection. We now find due to the configurator using Web Methods, we
need to use a JDBC (Java based)connection and driver. Epicor has no
knowledge of this driver (however, Progress informs us it is part of
their standard package along with ODBC). Has anyone out there used
JDBC? Thanks.
Yes.

I guess I've never benchmarked it. We tend to use JDBC for small reads
and writes, and ODBC for the epicor stuff and data extracts. New
development is tending towards JDBC as it is mostly web-based. Under
8.0 I'm presuming we will go with web services.

I just happened to notice, the Progress SQL Explorer tool uses the JDBC
interface. It has always seemed to be roughly the same speed as my
other odbc tools.
