Job creation, exectution, closing

we tried to manage several hundred jobs and found we couldn't that is why we
changed our process to pulling or kanban.

Hi,

I may not have been clear in my previous post.

The generation of jobs is happening OK, what I am looking for is a better
method for processing them once they have been created.

Thanks,
Duane

look for stock, it will just tell you to build it in your job traveler

it as a part to pull from the shelf - if there is no stock on the shelf,
it will create a separate job to build it. The flag works with the
non-stock flag so there are several scenarios to look at. Epicor has a
decent write-up on how all the flags work together so you may want to
give them a call.

Happy turkey day to all,

vantage will always build subassemblies (non-stock) it will not look at
the
shelf.

you may want to have the mrp flag on only some of your parts so you can
figure out what mrp is doing for your business case.

we have moved to a kanban environment which is great because a kanban
receipt creates the job, engineering it, receives the parent and closes
the
job. We moved to a standard cost system to do this, because we are also
back flushing labor and materials.

we setup several test scenarios in our test database before we went live
with a manufacturing process change we went through many; fat bills with
subassemblies; flat bills with no subassemblies; backflush vs.. manual
issue
of materials; backflush vs. actual labor etc....

it will create a separate job to build it.

Hi,

My name is Duane Kaufman, and our company recently implemented Vantage
for our ERP system.

We are still in the learning stage.

One thing I have been wrestling with is how to handle the flow of
jobs. Our main product has over 1000 parts, and 80 subassemblies. When
I let the MRP system loose with a forcast to build a top-level part,
it dutifully creates a large number of Un-firm jobs to satisfy the
demand.

(The top-level assembly is comprised of a few parts and sub
assemblies, these sub-assemblies are comprised of yet more parts and
sub-assemblies, all to levels up to 6 deep)

We are using MRP in this fashion (if I understand correctly) When a
top-level assembly needs a (part _or_ sub-assembly) it looks to the
inventory shelf, and if it can't find it, it will (in the case of a
manufactured part) initiate another job to make it.

This aspect all works as it should. However, processing these jobs
requires a lot of effort, where Vantage doesn't seem to offer much in
the way of aid (or I don't know what I am doing).

First, the job needs to be Firmed, and Released, and Travelers
printed.......but _which_ job? I can develop a list of the build
order, but why can't Vantage help with this? I cannot start with a
level that has dependencies not yet met. Is there a way to get Vantage
to tell me where to start?

Thanks,
Duane

Have you tried "Job Status Maintenance" instead of "Job Entry" for releasing
jobs? It may help a little.

Hi,

I may not have been clear in my previous post.

The generation of jobs is happening OK, what I am looking for is a better
method for processing them once they have been created.

Thanks,

From my testing, one of the key players in determining whether Vantage will
create a job for a subassembly or pick a subassembly is determined by the
Build As Assembly flag. If it is checked, the system will not look for
stock, it will just tell you to build it in your job traveler for the upper
assembly. If the checkbox is clear, the system will list it as a part to
pull from the shelf - if there is no stock on the shelf, it will create a
separate job to build it. The flag works with the non-stock flag so there
are several scenarios to look at. Epicor has a decent write-up on how all
the flags work together so you may want to give them a call.

The point I was trying to demonstrate is that if the build as assembly
flag is set to true, there is only one job for all the assemblies - each
on a different sheet on the job traveler report. Is one job easier than
multiple? I don't know. I'm not saying it is a better method because
that is too dependent upon the production plant. I think it is best to
know all the options so you can determine what is best for your company.
