Job Entry Drag-and-Drop Materials from Previous Job Functionality

In Epicor 9 and 10, we were able to add materials to a job in Job Entry by navigating the tabs: Engineering - Methods - Job. We would enter a job number for a previous similar job and that job’s tree would display below. We could navigate through the tree to the materials we wanted, and then click-and-drag those materials from that pane into the left tree view for the current job. This was efficient and helped us keep track of materials (less likely to miss something needed for a similar job). In the Kinetic UI, I can’t figure out how to replicate this functionality. I’ve tried the “Get Details” approach, but from what I can tell, jobs have to be marked as a template first in order to use this, which isn’t entirely practical since we pull parts from lots of old jobs. And even when I marked an old job as a template and selected it in the “Get Details” window of the current job, the “Materials Available to Append” grid is blank (and I know there are materials in that old job). So I’m wondering if either 1) I’m making a mistake in the “Get Details” process, 2) there is a way to replicate the functionality by adding a widget through Application Studio that allows drag-and-drop from an old job, or 3) anyone has any other ideas? Thanks!

I am looking into this, but it appears that the “engineering” feature that allowed this from a JOB didn’t make it into the 2021.1 release… but I also checked the next release, and it appears that there are a few additional places to get methods including Methods, JobMethods, and QuoteMethods. So… this appears to be “coming soon”.

This looks great - I’ll be patient and check it out in a future release. Thanks!

Spencer - I’d like to understand how you use the drag and drop to edit a job in version 10. Our engineers would LOVE that feature.

it is fairly simple, you go to the engineering section and you can recall any job, and then drag the components from that job into your current job. this allows you to selectively get individual materials or operations from previous job(s).

Tim explained it well, but here’s a screenshot for a visual look. It’s from E9.05, but is the same idea. After un-engineering and un-releasing a job in Job Entry, you can navigate through the tabs as he said. From the Jobs tabs, you can select a different job and see the operations and materials and drag-and-drop them from that main pane into the left tree view for the current job. We stumbled across this by accident one day but it’s definitely been a time-saver for anyone entering parts into jobs!
