Job Entry - Tracking Number of Welds?

Look at the number of operations that you need to do for one parent...
You could set it up that the operation is equal to 1 ft of welding, so they
would need to perform the operation 100 times...

The field is just above the production rate..

Could you not do something like inches or feet. 1 beam takes 100 feet of
weld and they could report how many feet of welding they have done?

We have typical job setups with labor and quantities but our management
wants to know if it is possible to track a number of welds. Here's an
example of why the hours and quantities don't always work. We have a job to
create a beam. The beam is 100 ft. long and will require about 48 hours of
welding. The quantity to complete is 1 and the production hours is 48 hours.
At 24 hours of production time it might not have 50% of the welds complete.
Therefore, it is difficult to predict whether the operation will complete on
time or not. Any thoughts on how best to track this?

If we put a custom field in on the Job Entry window we'd also have to
include a field on the MES window to allow workers to enter either # of
Welds complete or % of Welds complete. Or, is there a better way altogether?
Perhaps we could use the quantity to complete as the number of welds
instead.

Thanks for any ideas.
