Job Number - disappeared

You are right, they just disappear and come up as another job.

I tried the deletion BPM to only have the Master Planner having access, but still things would disappear.

I did confirm today that we have not had any issues anymore since we upgraded to 702A.

Thank you for the response.  Yes, we tried a BAQ and also checking for the records thru ODBC, they are just gone :(  I don't know how to use the BPM on deletion but I will definitely look into it, I will try anything to prevent this from happening again.  Although, I am 99.99% certain it is not user error and also the "delete" on job entry does not even allow deletion of job records with transactions and that is what "disappeared".  Appreciate any and all feedback!!  Thank you.

Just a thought, have you run a BAQ to check for the job number. Also maybe put some security around the Deletion method, we prevent users from deleting a lot things, either through a BPM or the Process Security menu.

One of our Job Number just disappear from the Job Entry. Day before everything was ok, but today our engineers trying to find job and they can't. I checked labor dtl table using Crystal Reports and there are transactions for this job number. I checked my backup from yesterday and also I found this job in job entry.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

We have had at least 2 jobs "disappear" on us (we are on Vantage 8.03.403D). Both were active jobs, i.e. they were released and had labor and materials applied to them. In both cases, Vantage created a new, firm job that mirrored the deleted job. Look for a new job under the part number used on the missing job (in our case, Vantage used the Firm Job Prefix (appearing on the Plant Maintenance screen) to create the new job number). We were left with Labor Details and PartTran records referencing the deleted jobs and new, firm jobs to build the jobs (in our case, machines) all over again. To get our machines in stock, we added their original job numbers to Vantage again (since they longer existed in the database). We also had to clean-up the accounting because we had dollars in WIP that could not flush themselves out. I have worked with Vantage support to debug this problem but so far the cause has remained elusive. We make extensive use of SubAssemeblies in our machine jobs so I wonder if the culprit code is associated with SubAssembly maintenance. Anyway, hopefully this helps.

Peter - I realize this is a very old thread, but did you ever get any answers from Epicor on this?  We came from Vantage 5.2 to Epicor 9.05 about 8 months ago and we have had this happen to us a handful of times since our upgrade. (we were on vantage 14 years prior and never had any problems at all).  It is obviously a major issue for active job records (assemblies and operations) to just disappear when we have transactions against the job (Labor and material transactions).  I have an open call with epicor (several months old) and have sent in multiple copes of my database, but we are not getting any help.     Just wondering if you got anywhere on the issue?

Thanks for any feedback.

Sarah

We just recently went from V5.2 to E9. But have not had this issue.  Do you have logs set up on Jobs to see if someone is deleting them?

We had this problem quite some time ago but haven't seen it on 9.05.702a. Never found out was causing it but we had Part Transactions referencing the deleted jobs so you should be able to see the extent of the problem.

Subject: Re: [Vantage] Re: Job Number - disappeared

We just recently went from V5.2 to E9. But have not had this issue.  Do you have logs set up on Jobs to see if someone is deleting them?

Appreciate the response. We have the change logs set-up but they do not record if someone deleted it. And another oddity is the change log is sometimes still there even though the record is gone with no reference tot he deletion. Also all of the transactions still exist (labor records, PO's, PO receipts, etc etc) so I do not believe that it is the case of a person deleting them (It should not even be possible with the business logic since these transactions exist). Further, our planner has "seen" it happen -> he was working on a method in job entry and while he was adding operations the job structure just "Disappeared" on him. The job header record and job# was still there, but ALL operations and 40+ subassemblies just disappeared with no notification or error or anything. The operations had labor transactions against them and material had purchase orders, and the labor and PO's are still there but now linked to a non-existent record. It was not a one-time thing, it has happened at least 5 or 6 times over the 9 months we have been on 9.05 to multiple users.

We had this problem quite some time ago but haven't seen it on 9.05.702a. Never found out was causing it but we had Part Transactions referencing the deleted jobs so you should be able to see the extent of the problem.

We just recently went from V5.2 to E9. But have not had this issue. Do you have logs set up on Jobs to see if someone is deleting them?

Sarah

When we 9.05.607A we had this happen as well.  I honestly never called EPICOR because I knew they would  not be able to help because I could not repeat the issue.

In our case, the job has operation 10 and 20 completed with some material issued.  That job A would disappear, and a new job B would appear with Op 10 and 20 completed but with no logs or labor details.

Havent heard anyone say anything to me with 9.05.702A (upgraded 11/28/14)

I had a similar problem with Sales Orders being deleted - no log.
I finally add a BPM alert - doesn't prevent record deletes
- just lets me know SONum,who/when in case there are related problems down the road.
Just a thought, have you run a BAQ to check for the job number. Also maybe put some security around the Deletion method, we prevent users from deleting a lot things, either through a BPM or the Process Security menu.

-Bobby
Thank you for the response. Yes, we tried a BAQ and also checking for the records thru ODBC, they are just gone :( I don't know how to use the BPM on deletion but I will definitely look into it, I will try anything to prevent this from happening again. Although, I am 99.99% certain it is not user error and also the "delete" on job entry does not even allow deletion of job records with transactions and that is what "disappeared". Appreciate any and all feedback!! Thank you.
