Junk Mail

Todd,

You might want to check into this further. I was getting several a day
until I did something about it. Start with this...
If you view the full header, the return path (not the from) should contain
the address that originated the Klez (if they have their address set up
correctly in their mail program). Second, you should be able to find in the
header the server and the ID of the user that sent it. I only went after it
from a domain point of view. I contacted the abuse address for that domain
and forwarded them a copy (per their request) of the message (nothing in it
after Norton was done with it) and the full header (found under "view"
"options" in Outlook). From that day, I have not had another. Granted all
of mine were from the same person, every time they checked their mail it
sent another. I have not tested to see if they blocked this user or all
their users from sending mail to me, or actually contacted the user to
report that they had a problem. Either way, it stopped.
Personally I was starting to enjoy the light show...just add a six pack of
Bud and you have a "high tech redneck".
No offence to anyone that might fit that category including myself. :)

As for the spam, I am convinced that (although you can reduce the quantity)
it does not matter what you do, you can't eliminate it short of pulling the
plug.

Is it just me or is everyone getting junk like this?

Unless you specifically "Opt-Out" the assumption is that you are
"Opting-In". These folks aren't asking my "Permission" to send me email -
the assumption isn't that I'm giving them permission unless I specifically
say NO NO NO.

Very annoying.

Also, we are averaging about 2 to 3 shots a day of KLEZ.H.Worm. Our
anti-Virus software is zapping them every time but the bzzzz bzzzz bzzzz of
them hitting the bug-zapper is getting old. Are you folks experiencing the
same thing?

Yes, we are getting a ton of it. I am now trying McAfee 'Spam Killer' to
try and cut it down.

I have heard that if you reply to some emails like this to remove your name,
then it just validates you email address and you get TONS more! Just what I
need!

I am also installing SurfControl Email filter on my Exchange server later
this week to block some there.

You might also SpamNET ( http://www.cloudmark.com/

blocking spam in which known-to-be-spammers are immediately blocked from all
users the second they are flagged by anybody. Plus, it is free.
