Kan Ban Blank Title 83822

Mark,
I set up my kanban on warehouse level and I assign the PO with Lines for that part. When my onhand qty falls below min level, it did not do what I think it should do "create releases on the PO", also for production kanban, I am not sure how the system can create a job to remake the part.
Please kindly explain.

Thank you,
Grace

Have not used the E9 version but in 8.03.xx you define the KanBan type on the Part Plant/Warehouse/KanBan tab (purchase or production). If it is a purchase you have to setup a PO with Lines for that part for a supplier. As the onhand falls below a certain quantity (set up for min/max and safety stock) it creates releases on that PO. There is no automatic e-mailing to a supplier but a BPM could probably work. If it is a production KanBan it will create jobs with a KB prefix and you can issue materials to that job
Â
What can anyone tell me about the Vantage Kan Ban in 6.1 to 8 to 9? Is it easy to set up? Will it send electronic messages to the suppliers? How does it work (in short), etc?

Thank you,

The KanBan monitor is basically a dashboard with filters on it that highlight red (if zero on hand) or yellow (if quantity on hand but below min or safety stock) as KanBan "signals". The system does not actually print any KanBan cards
Â
In 8.03.xx it was a fairly simple response on the part of Epicor to come up with a "lean manufacturing" solution for those who did not want to run MRP. Its basic but may work for you with some customizations

We use Bin based KanBans (production type) - defined on PartPlant/Warehouse/Detail/BinInfo tab on 8.03.405a with AMM & MRP.

The Vantage process does not pre-emptively create a KB prefixed job that appears as a pending supply job. Rather our physically/visually controlled bin handling process triggers the production activity (via training, work rules & visual In/Out shelving at production & point of use areas) & upon completion, the workers report it through KanBan Receipts (which creates the KB prefixed job, backflushes all materials and method standard labor, and auto receipts to the whse/bin defined on PartPlant/Warehouse/Detail/BinInfo tab).

We spent a great deal of time trying to get purchased KanBans to work - but (even with a very good Epicor consultant's help) could never get the process to add a new release to referenced PO lines.

In retrospect, I have a feeling the process (specifically for Purchased type KanBans) MIGHT work had we attempted a warehouse based KanBan paradigm (versus our discrete/per-part Whse/BIN based kanbans).

I agree with Mark that (if you get purchased type kanbans to work with your version/configuration), a BAM/BPM could probably generate emailed notifications to the vendor.

We JUST ended up (last week) creating our own vendor kanban process (internal web app) to drive the process & control/track the cards. (Check back in a month or two if you're interested once we've shaken out inevitable process holes I'm sure we'll encounter and have to adapt to.)

I was able to get the PO releases to work but, the thing you need to watch out for is that the quantity on the PO line must always exceed your planned release requirements, which is not that easy to always maintain or anticipate, a real flaw in the Kanban creating releases
Â
Otherwise, like Rob has stated, a mixture of good shop floor control and using the KB jobs to issue material to is a good way to go
Â
Be sure to not mix setting up parts as MRP processed and Kanban. These are two very different processes and if you accidentally set up a part with both it will give you some unpredictable results
