When creating a new data view in an app and the wiring a grid or panel grid to that data view, is there a way to get all the columns to populate in the grid model columns without having to type them all in manually? It a pain in the ass when you dataview/BAQ has a bunch of columns.
Use guided setup
Well, yeah, don’t do anything and they will all come in, but in alphabetical order. I don’t know about you, but that is never the order I want them in…
They come in in BAQ order this way? I think I have tried this without success.
That works when initially setting up the application but not when creating a new dataview within am existing app
BAQ order I’ve found.
They don’t for me.
Odd, I just uplifted 40+ dashboards to Kinetic and they always came in BAQ order for me.
To be clear, create the Data View then the Grid then goes off BAQ order. So if the Data View already existed and THEN you change the BAQ order it’ll not be different when using the Grid wizard.
Well I am very happy to be wrong! This worked well for me.
BAQ order (for reference):
App Studio - had to make the View next (right?). This shows in alpha order:
Then did Guided Setup and behold, the columns are in BAQ order:
Yes!
So @mbayley I recall you or @tpogue praising guided setup before, but I thought you meant the app wizard.
THAT is terrible.
Meaning if you want to fail, in app studio, do this (the wizard):
Then this:
And next…
(I skipped the Form Card)
And fail:
But now I understand the one you meant and it does work.
You can do this at any time. You can see in @mbayley’s screenshot, it is at the top of the main page of the properties of your grid in app studio.
I never have liked the Wizard.
Maybe it’s better future versions. I’ll give it another go when we upgrade.
@JasonMcD, that was me! During our dashboard presentation at Insights, I recommended the guided setup. You are right–when you create the dataview, the columns show up in alpha order, but if you follow up with the Guided Setup for the grid, the columns end up in the BAQ order. I don’t use the wizard because we developed a dashboard template that works well.
You can also reorder the columns later if you want, using drag and drop and Save Layout, or Personalize Columns, in the grid.
