It does not have any direct impact. Fab part LT's change constantly with your load as even unfirmed MRP jobs are scheduled (and likely have unique LT's depending upon competing load - particularly in a finite environment).
It is for reference only unless your are doing dual internal/external (supplier) sourcing. Typically you would have more control over your own internal processes than a remote supplier - so you might initially have the part set to Purchased, generate a PO to cover 50-80% of the predicted requirements over time (if the part is commonly used) and then flip the part back to Fab so MRP generates unfirmed Jobs to fill in the peaks and valleys of your requirement needs over time.
