License issue v5.2

Gary,

I am pretty sure it does, because we have always (and still do) used Procontrol and it works fine.

For those upgrading to a new version of Vantage (while in training/test or with your live database), running your schema changes in Single user mode runs ALOT faster also. (Performance tip for upgrading.) Sounds like a lot of companies are preparing to upgrade these days.

Another option to keep users out while you do Vantage Admin stuff is to
shut down Progress Explorer, then access Vantage from a "Single User" mode
icon. This would be a copy of your regular Vantage.vtg icon, except that
you replace the "Connections=-N TCP -H host -S epic52 -ld vantage" line to
just "Connections=-1". This opens Vantage in single-user mode (which only
works with the database shut off).

I will try that next time. Which will be at 11:30 (lunch time) today.
Because....when I entered all the license codes I missed the Order
Management codes and now that everyone is back in the system I can't enter
it. It requires that I be the only user in the system. The next best
window to do this is lunch. Then I'll have to walk the shop again and fix
all the DC PC's that I will have to ProMon out.

At least for us this was a quick fix issue and the total down time was
about 45 min. My sympathy to the earlier sites that were down much longer.

We are in the midst of this right now. Epicor Support sent me 4 files and
Ijust ebtered the response code but somebody in the plant tried to get
into
Vantage inbeyween kicking them out and my entering the response so the
license file was locked up. Arrrrrgh! So now I'm on hold waiting for
support to give me a new response and try again. In the mean time I'll
bet
someone else tries to get in and screws it up again.

On the bright side patch 312 is supposed to be out today or tomorrow and
has fix for this issue. From the sounds of it 311 was supposed to fix it
so the files they send are different for 305 vs. 311. Apparently a lot of
sites are reporting this.

Hey guys, guess what? Count me in as one more user with the corrupt

problem. Yesterday AM all my users got the error. Called support and was
emailed two files, VNTGMENU.r and Vntgmenu.wrx. Was told to put them in
my
Vantage folder. I was then given an unlock code to enter into the
response
field that appears in the error message box. After the code was entered I
had to reenter all the module codes(what a pain). I was down for a couple
hours. Everything seems to be OK? We are on 5.20.305.

We were at the 308 patch and got the error. We then loaded the 311

brought our company to a halt for about 5 hours! As it turns out, the
problem was our custom programming had an expire date in the code!!!!
WHY WOULD YOU PUT AN EXPIRE DATE IN YOUR CODE????????

Anyhow, tech support was great in determining the problem, but this was
very costly to us!

Version 5.2. There is a message on the workstations that are trying to log
on to Vantage that says; Your System is Locked. Error: License information
has been corrupted. There are two fields marked Field1 and Field2 with
numbers in them and another field labeled Response that is blank. We are
locked out of Vantage and are waiting for someone from support to call us.
We have two shifts that run for a total of 20 hours/day. We came in this
morning at 5:30am EST and were not able to get on to Vantage. Now we have
to wait for support to call us....... I found a document on ePortal that
explains it, but that doesn't help me right now. For reference it is
190.891MPS.

Sorry, I just needed to let off a little steam. There nothing I can do but
wait.

We had the same problem, but we have NO custom programming. Support was
very helpful when it happened and solved the problem rather quickly seeing
as it was a new problem at that time. There should be a quick fix to the
problem since it was patched in .310 PATCH.

We had a similar thing happen on Friday - a few users could access the
system, but most could not. Progress would just hang when trying to start
vantage and one user got a license expired message. I rebooted my server -
same results only now I can't get my data collection terminals to respond -
doh! It was really random as to who could get on and who couldn't. I ended
up trying a client install on one machine and what do you know it worked. I
ended up going to every computer that could not access and reinstalling the
client. We are all still functioning....thankfully. Good luck Michael.

This is happening to us right now for the second time since we upgraded to
Version 5.2. There is a message on the workstations that are trying to log
on to Vantage that says; Your System is Locked. Error: License information
has been corrupted. There are two fields marked Field1 and Field2 with
numbers in them and another field labeled Response that is blank. We are
locked out of Vantage and are waiting for someone from support to call us.
We have two shifts that run for a total of 20 hours/day. We came in this
morning at 5:30am EST and were not able to get on to Vantage. Now we have
to wait for support to call us....... I found a document on ePortal that
explains it, but that doesn't help me right now. For reference it is
190.891MPS.

Sorry, I just needed to let off a little steam. There nothing I can do but
wait.

We had the same message on 1/13/03 (except we weren't upgrading). This
brought our company to a halt for about 5 hours! As it turns out, the
problem was our custom programming had an expire date in the code!!!!
WHY WOULD YOU PUT AN EXPIRE DATE IN YOUR CODE????????

Anyhow, tech support was great in determining the problem, but this was
very costly to us!

Hey guys, guess what? Count me in as one more user with the corrupt license
problem. Yesterday AM all my users got the error. Called support and was
emailed two files, VNTGMENU.r and Vntgmenu.wrx. Was told to put them in my
Vantage folder. I was then given an unlock code to enter into the response
field that appears in the error message box. After the code was entered I
had to reenter all the module codes(what a pain). I was down for a couple
hours. Everything seems to be OK? We are on 5.20.305.

We are in the midst of this right now. Epicor Support sent me 4 files and Ijust ebtered the response code but somebody in the plant tried to get into Vantage inbeyween kicking them out and my entering the response so the license file was locked up. Arrrrrgh! So now I'm on hold waiting for support to give me a new response and try again. In the mean time I'll bet someone else tries to get in and screws it up again.

On the bright side patch 312 is supposed to be out today or tomorrow and has fix for this issue. From the sounds of it 311 was supposed to fix it so the files they send are different for 305 vs. 311. Apparently a lot of sites are reporting this.

No we didn't go back to 308. They recompiled the vntgmenu.r &.wrx files
and sent them to us. We then had to unlock the licenses, and re-enter
all the codes!
We have been up since then, but we are having a problem with our price
lists now. Epicor has our database (almost 8 gig), and was able to
duplicate the price list problem. It is a 311 patch bug. They have
sent it to development, and I haven't heard anything since (nor will I
unless I call them!).

I have a test server which I daily restore the previous night's backup
to, both to ensure the integrity of the online backup, as well as my
tape backup system.
I have now set that server's time 4 days ahead so I can get an advanced
warning of any "time bomb" hidden "features" in Vantage.

I will try that next time. Which will be at 11:30 (lunch time) today. Because....when I entered all the license codes I missed the Order Management codes and now that everyone is back in the system I can't enter it. It requires that I be the only user in the system. The next best window to do this is lunch. Then I'll have to walk the shop again and fix all the DC PC's that I will have to ProMon out.

At least for us this was a quick fix issue and the total down time was about 45 min. My sympathy to the earlier sites that were down much longer.

Which patch level are you at?
I was told that anything less than 308 would give you this corrupt
license issue

Another option to keep users out while you do Vantage Admin stuff is to shut down Progress Explorer, then access Vantage from a "Single User" mode icon. This would be a copy of your regular Vantage.vtg icon, except that you replace the "Connections=-N TCP -H host -S epic52 -ld vantage" line to just "Connections=-1". This opens Vantage in single-user mode (which only works with the database shut off).

I will try that next time. Which will be at 11:30 (lunch time) today. Because....when I entered all the license codes I missed the Order Management codes and now that everyone is back in the system I can't enter it. It requires that I be the only user in the system. The next best window to do this is lunch. Then I'll have to walk the shop again and fix all the DC PC's that I will have to ProMon out.

At least for us this was a quick fix issue and the total down time was about 45 min. My sympathy to the earlier sites that were down much longer.

We are in the midst of this right now. Epicor Support sent me 4 files and
Ijust ebtered the response code but somebody in the plant tried to get into
Vantage inbeyween kicking them out and my entering the response so the
license file was locked up. Arrrrrgh! So now I'm on hold waiting for
support to give me a new response and try again. In the mean time I'll bet
someone else tries to get in and screws it up again.

On the bright side patch 312 is supposed to be out today or tomorrow and
has fix for this issue. From the sounds of it 311 was supposed to fix it
so the files they send are different for 305 vs. 311. Apparently a lot of
sites are reporting this.

Hey guys, guess what? Count me in as one more user with the corrupt license
problem. Yesterday AM all my users got the error. Called support and was
emailed two files, VNTGMENU.r and Vntgmenu.wrx. Was told to put them in my
Vantage folder. I was then given an unlock code to enter into the response
field that appears in the error message box. After the code was entered I
had to reenter all the module codes(what a pain). I was down for a couple
hours. Everything seems to be OK? We are on 5.20.305.
