Link Customer Part Numbers to Our Part Numbers?

Greg: Great idea, I'll have to think about incorporating that idea

Nick: Good point. I don't think our customers require this, but I
will have to be sure to look out for it. Thank you.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you!
You could set up each individual customer part number as a top level and
bring your part number in as a component.

You should already have the functionality to do this...

Check out the "customer part" facility. Its within the "Sales : Order
Management : Setup" folder. ( At least in 8.03.305 anyway )

This should do most of what you need...

Thanks,

Nick

Have you tried setting the Parts up under Customer Part number?

Sales order line items have customer part field for your 3 different
customers which could all point to the same "manufactured part" which
your employees would enter jobs for. This basic functionality has been
in vantage since the first version I started working with. I'm afraid to
say was (version 2.6).

Thank you all for your responses. I will play around with the
Customer Part entry in Setup and then use these parts in my order
line items (I see the customer part field).

I'm assuming MRP will pick these up and create jobs for them under
our part number. I'll give it a shot. Thanks again!

In V6.0 you have the opportunity to add a Customer Part Number to
your Part Number on each Sales Order Line. We use the process
regularly and it works well. Use care however as once you generate a
(customer – your number pair) some fields will auto fill the next
time you do either a quote or sales order.

Thanks for the tip, apt.

I have created a test order with a customer part and ran the MRP,
which created an unfirm job with my company's part number. It seems
to be working smoothly. This is fantastic; thanks everyone for the
speedy replies :).

I was wondering... is there an easy way to view all customer parts?
They don't show up in a Part search (understandibly because they are
not our parts) nor do they show up in the Customer Part setup. In
the Customer Part setup I can only create new parts, not view
previously created ones. I can view customer parts within a sales
order when I add a line, but this isn't very convenient if I just
want to see which customer parts we have for a given customer. I'm
sure I'm just not looking in the right places.

Thank you.

Yes, create a BAQ using the Part and the CustXPrt tables.

In your BAQ, establish the relationships of Part.Company =
CustXPrt.Company and Part.PartNum = Part.CustXPrt.

You may then use that BAQ in a BAQ Search in order to search various
maintenance modules and trackers by Customer Part Number instead of
your own Part Number.

Or you can use that BAQ in the BAQ Report designer. Then, if you
wish, you can put a cross-reference list report on the Vantage menu
for your users.

Lynn, that is a nice way to customize it. I'll look into that as

Thank you.

On thing I did was to put (bury) the customer part number ont the second
(third, fourth, etc.) line of the part description. That way if you are
in part tracker, you can put a customer part number in the "Where Part
Description Contains" box and it will find the part. It also comes in
handy when the customer changes their part number when they make a
revision change. Lots of automotive customers like to do this (eg:
197566C1 changes to 197566C2 when they change from revision a to
revision b).

I still use the customer part number field on the sales order of course
as well as in customer specific price lists.

You should be fine with it, but as always there is a catch that might
cause you some problems ( it has for us )...

Our customers are very sensitive about revision levels, and therefore
we need to map our customers part and revision level directly to our
part and revision level. Out of the box Vantage cannot do this. It
will map your customers part number ( and revision ) to your CURRENT
part revision only.

As can be the case on so many occasions, Vantage gets you 90% of the
way there and then falls short.

Good luck...

Nick
