Long MRP run times-

We're still investigating, but I think the source of the problem will be
found in the log file. In our system it is:
\\epicor-app\mfgsysdata\Reports\XXX\MRP Log001.TXT
<file:///\\epicor-app\mfgsysdata\Reports\XXX\MRP%20Log001.TXT> where
XXX is the user who's ID the MRP job is scheduled under. This shows
every transaction that MRP attempts, any errors or problems. In our
case, it's a huge file but we'll be going through this to fix a lot of
things. Some of it is jobs not closed and another problem is narrowing
the number of parts it runs against by marking them either inactive or
uncheck "process MRP".

I hope this helps in your situation.

Thanks to all that had suggestions.

Robin

Did you found the solution on this, we also have the sam issue, we have
Vantage 8.00.809 G running on SQL Server 2000 and it takes at least 8hrs
to finished. Any advice will be very appreciated.

Thanks,
Sal.

Our MRP runs take forever (up to 8-10 hours occasionally). We have 62,000 parts in our system. I have to think the number of parts plays into the problem. Does anyone else have long MRP runs or have suggestions on how to minimize?

We're on 8.03.407

Thanks.

Its not really the number of parts, but the number of parts that are stock items and are marked "Process MRP" in the plant. If all your parts are stocked "Process MRP" items, I can see why it would take this long.

Robin, have you performed all the SQL tuning that Epicor recommends?

It used to take me 8-10 hours too.

My biggest improvement was when I put SQL SP3 on the server. Now MRP
never takes more than 2 hrs.

There's also page-locking scripts Epicor had me run. I can send them to
you if you haven't performed any of this yet.

Some helpful things can be making sure that parts you don't want MRP to
process don't have the MRP flag checked in the Part Entry screen.

Firm as many jobs as you can for your environment, as MRP will no
longer attempt to process those.

Try different combinations of processors and schedulers (we typically
run 2 and 2).

If you also run global scheduling in conjunction with MRP (highly
recommended) set MRP to infinite backwards scheduling mode since Global
will reschedule all of your jobs regardless.

Make sure you run MRP during times when system activity will be at a
minimum.

I think there might be a couple more Ill post again offline when it
comes back to me.

Subject: [Vantage] Long MRP run times-

Our MRP runs take forever (up to 8-10 hours occasionally). We have
62,000 parts in our system. I have to think the number of parts plays
into the problem. Does anyone else have long MRP runs or have
suggestions on how to minimize?

We're on 8.03.407

Thanks.

What does your (detailed) MRP log say? It might expose the problem (like a 'bad' multilevel product structure).

Do enable scheduling w/ MRP (or Pegging)?

Yes, we've done the performance tuning multiple times and we have SP3 on
SQL. Our PO suggestions runs almost 3 hours at times as well.
