Lot Numbers - how to fix incorrect lot picked for SO?

We are working on implementing Lot Numbers on a new product line coming out this fall.

We know our Material Handlers are going to pick Parts for Sales Orders and enter the incorrect lot number.

When we discover that has happened, how do we correct it in Kinetic?

What are you doing to help your Material Handlers pick and enter the correct Lot Numbers? We will be using EKW (outbound orders).

Please clarify what you mean by incorrect lot number. If you have the same part in 2 bins with 2 lots, are they getting from one bin but entering lot from the part in another bin?

Are you limiting 1 lot per bin for your warehouse?

In order for them to transact the lot, the lot must have an on hand quantity as well. so if lot number is 1234, they cant accidently hit 1345. It will say its not on hand.

We will have multiple lot numbers in a bin. I can see a Material Handler who needs to pick 5 of a Part physically take 3 of lot 1234 and 2 of lot 6789, but then in EKW they will report 5 of lot 6789. This assumes there are 5 of lot 6789 available. When we discover the error, how do we fix Kinetic so it knows 3 of lot 1234 and 2 of lot 6789 went on the Sales Order and not 5 of lot 6789?

Believe me, these people will mess it up any which way possible.

Can’t you just do a quantity adjust for the parts that went negative? I know it works for the count of parts, but I am not sure about the lot number side.

Qty Adjust would adjust the quantity/lot on hand, but how do we correct Lot Tracker so we know which customer got which lot?

When you discover the mis-pick is key. If discovered at shipping, you should be able to unpick it from the pack and repick the correct lot. If not discovered until later (like after ship and invoice) you probably need to do an RMA and do a replacement order for the correct lot. There could be an easier way, though…

Also sounds like a prime candidate for process/behavior modification - measure and post pick quality statistics tied to performance evaluations, coupled with liberal use of 2nd reminder tool (i.e. 3 ft piece of 2X4) :smiley:

Are you using Material Queue/Outbound Orders for picking? Assuming this is the case, there are a few things you can put in place to stop this happening - prevention is better than cure, right?:

  • Create a BPM to validate the Lot Number is correct.
  • Switch on ‘Prevent overpicking on XXX-SHP type material queue items’ in EKW.
  • Apply ‘Stop’ to for your Part Class negative Action.

Using EKW you are going to be scanning the label right?

We are only scanning the Part Number. The Lot Number is not barcoded on our labels.

Might be another opportunity for change there

@kskipper If you include your lot number and part number in the same barcode either using a fixed, dynamic or GS1 barcode, you can capture both the part number and the lot number on scan. The device will “know” which value in the barcode corresponds to the value in EKW and parse the info and fill it correctly.

When I say “know” you will have to configure barcode templates under the scanner settings.

The simplest way would be to set your delimiter as a ‘~’ and then put this in the barcode template: fixed:${partNum}~${fromLot}

From there you’d configure your part barcode as: PARTNUM~LOTNUM
