Lump Sum Quoting (8.03)

I understand Epicor 9 allows sales kit components to be non-stock items. However, if you're in Vantage 8.03.4xx, sales kit components must be stock items, no made-to-order. This feature in Vantage has caused us to have to add many one-time sales items as standard parts just to get them in a sales kit. I tried a quick test to see if you could delete and add kit components in an order, from what I saw you can, so sales kits should handle a varying number of components. A word of caution...if you use sales kits in quotes and configure them there, you may have to re-configure them when you bring them over to an order. We are on 8.03.409A where there is a bug when you bring over a quote to an order, it brings in the part components, not the quote components. Another bug...you can't pull a sales kit quote line into an order, you have to push it. Pulling it in has caused us problems everywhere from pick list to pack list to invoicing. If you consider sales kits I'd strongly advise you to TEST TEST TEST!

Does anyone else have the need to provide quotes (and orders) as a lump sum cost?

We often have to quote a project (consisting of manufactured goods, direct shipped components, and services) as a lump sum cost for the project. Individual items are listed listed on the quote/order but are assigned a zero dollar. For example:

Line Qty P/N Desc Cost
1 1 Prj101 Widget Project consisting $100,000.00
of the following:

2 5 Widg1 Widget Assy 0.00

3 1 Inst Install and test Widgets 0.00

4 5 WG Widget Grease(direct shipped) 0.00

We will invoice line items as the occur (mfg'd shipped, drop ship rcv'd, etc).

We end up with line 1 never being shipped or completed, and have to change the invoices for lines 2 - 4 to reflect their portion of the lump sum cost.

Any thoughts... ???

Thanks in advance,

Calvin
Have you thought about creating a Sales Kit? Add a part number - Widget - as type sales kit and then build a method with each of the items. On the part maintenance/plants/sales kits tab you can check whether you want the pricing to come from the parent or the children. You can also decide if you want to change paramters, print options etc
Â
When you bring in the Widget on the quote line, you can click on "kit details" and have them display with $0 prices and only show the price for the top line

That's so simple it just might work!

I am not familiar with Sales Kits. Do they have to be structured ahead of time? If so this won't work, as all our Lump Sum orders are built on the fly and and have varying numbers of line items.

Can an OTF(on-the-fly) part be flagged as Sales Kit?

Thanks again,

Calvin

A quick test reveals:

1. A part must exist in the Part table in order to be a Sales Kit.
2. I don't have to populate the Sales Kit components.
3. Can add extra lines to the Sales Kit.
4. Parts added to the Sales Kit must reside in the Part table.
5. The Quote worksheet doesn't blow through the Parent Kit.

That last two are killers. We often have order specific items that would only be purchased once (and usually shipped direct to the customer's site) that we don't want to have to create a Part for every time.
