MACs have remote desktop tools on them???

I use it now, but then PCs have that tool anyway...

You could always use Remote Desktop to connect to a Terminal Server.

The Mac version is found at:
http://www.microsof t.com/downloads/ details.aspx?
<http://www.microsof t.com/downloads/ details.aspx?>
FamilyID=6573F9F1- 8AE1-4DA9- AB5C-F8457ECDAF2 D&displaylang= en

We have a couple of office-based users using this (not very heavily
though) and it seems to work ok.

Mac with Windows running on it (dual boot) :)

There is a wonderful app from vmware which allows windows apps to run on macs without having to go thru the process of launching a virtual machine (i suspect it does have some semblance of a VM though), i forget what it is called, but im sure it is advertised on their website.

Thanks,
Kunal

You could try Crossover Mac. I used the Linux version to run Vantage in the

Here are three more options:

1. Parallels Desktop - www.parallels.com

2. VMWare Fusion - www.vmare.com

3. Dual Boot with Boot Camp -
www.apple.com/macosx/features/bootcamp.html

I have used all of the options and they all run Vantage without issue. They
are all really windows so there are no compatibility issues. My personal
favorite is VMWare Fusion as it currently supports USB 2.0 and dual
processors, however Parallels work very hard on their software so it won't
be long before they support it also. Parallels and VMWare Fusion are both
Virtual Machines, but due to the fact that Apple uses Intel processors they
are very fast and take full advantage of all of the VM capabilities of the
latest processors.

Yes. I seem to remember the user mentioning some hiccups with installation, but I do not remember specifics.

Just remember, this is not a "supported" configuration, so you can forget about tech support if you open with "So I have a mac with vantage on it...." I definitely would not recommend anyone using a mac for vantage for this reason.

Thanks,
Kunal

I don't know why Epicor would not support Windows running in a virtual
machine. Running Vantage on a Mac would be unsupported, however running
practically any software in a virtual machine is just like running it on a
machine. I have various virtual machines that I run Vantage in everyday.
Never have had any problems with this. We even run our test Vantage server
in a virtual machine and haven't had any problems with that either. Running
Windows applications with the Codeweavers product or Wine are different from
running things in virtual machines and there can be issues with these
products.

yep! my sentiments exactly, but an epicor rep who made a presentation at the last texas epicor user group meeting categorically pointed out that they do not and probably will not support vantage clients and servers running on VMs. Of course, with the proliferation of virtualization, I really do hope they change their policy.

Thanks,
Kunal

Mac with Windows running on it (dual boot) :)

There is a wonderful app from vmware which allows windows apps to run on
macs without having to go thru the process of launching a virtual
machine (i suspect it does have some semblance of a VM though), i forget
what it is called, but im sure it is advertised on their website.

Thanks,
Kunal

Anyone out there using MACs in their environment? Especially with
Vantage/Vista 8.xx?

Maybe if enough of us complain???? Or get the bigger companies that use
Vantage to complain?????

I don't know...I figured if Apple was making an effort to get back into
the business world it would make sense....

yep! my sentiments exactly, but an epicor rep who made a presentation at
the last texas epicor user group meeting categorically pointed out that
they do not and probably will not support vantage clients and servers
running on VMs. Of course, with the proliferation of virtualization, I
really do hope they change their policy.

I don't know why Epicor would not support Windows running in a virtual
machine. Running Vantage on a Mac would be unsupported, however running
practically any software in a virtual machine is just like running it on
a
machine. I have various virtual machines that I run Vantage in everyday.
Never have had any problems with this. We even run our test Vantage
server
in a virtual machine and haven't had any problems with that either.
Running
Windows applications with the Codeweavers product or Wine are different
from
running things in virtual machines and there can be issues with these
products.

Yes. I seem to remember the user mentioning some hiccups with
installation, but I do not remember specifics.

Just remember, this is not a "supported" configuration, so you can
forget about tech support if you open with "So I have a mac with vantage
on it...." I definitely would not recommend anyone using a mac for
vantage for this reason.

Thanks,
Kunal

So you are running vantage with no problems as long as it has windows on
it? Any issues with installing using vmware?

You could always use Remote Desktop to connect to a Terminal Server.

The Mac version is found at:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?
FamilyID=6573F9F1-8AE1-4DA9-AB5C-F8457ECDAF2D&displaylang=en

We have a couple of office-based users using this (not very heavily
though) and it seems to work ok.
