I know everyone loves some serial number fun, so thought I’d ask..
We are trying to create a job that is directly tied to a sales order (make direct). The job would be both serialized and lot tracked.
The challenge we are running into is how to pick the job to the sales order when serialization/lot tracking is enabled. Currently, the system does not allow it (or it does and we just aren’t using it correctly), and the person performing the picking has to request that serial/lot tracking be turned off. Otherwise, the system will not generate a packing slip.
I assume this is not normal practice. I know we are to release a sales order line for picking through the fulfillment workbench. However, after testing and research, it appears that the fulfillment workbench does not handle make-to-order jobs in the same way.
So I guess my question really is –
CAN you create a make direct job to a sales order that is serialized/lot tracked through the whole process?
Yes, you can create a Make Direct job to sales order that is serialized/lot tracked through the whole process.
The part must be a serialized part.
Lot tracking enabled.
Ours when we create serialized trailer jobs, we generate a serial and VIN (BPM) on job release. Lot numbers are assigned matching the Job number for simplicity normally assisting in tracking cost for said part. You will assign a lot and serial number to shipment from WIP or inventory depending on how you process your jobs.
I must be missing something somewhere..
The part is set up as lot tracked and serial tracked. Both get assigned to the job when it is released by the planner.
When I create the packslip and press save, I get this error circled below.
Then I go in and try to add the serial number (the one that is linked to M1674749 job) but there is no serial number to select. So I’m stuck. Thoughts?
I know you cannot issue a serialized part to its next higher job until the job its associated with is closed, so maybe this is the same instance?
If so, does not seem there is a work around unless of course I am not doing it correct..
This is the error I get if the job the serialized part to is closed -
Did you run the Serial Number Assignment program to assign serial numbers to the job?
After the job is created but BEFORE the items are shipped, you need to run Serial Number Assignment and actually put the serial numbers on the job. Then, ship the parts, and the Customer Shipment Entry program will ask you to assign a Lot Number. Once shipped, THEN you can close the job.
Yes, jobs have the serial number assigned when they are created by the planners.
I did find that the serial number is available to select as long as the status of the serial number is WIP, meaning once it goes into inventory it cannot be selected to ship from the job.
