Scott,
First off - add a note to all quotes that prices quoted are based on lead
time listed. Orders required in less time will be subject to rush
surcharges to cover the cost of expediting orders.
While you're at it add a second note that if a customer orders LESS then the
qty quoted a new price will be quoted based on the lower qty.
We have customers who love to quote 100 pc lot's only to order 10-15 at time
... on a "Rush" basis and EXPECT to get the original price quoted at 100
with full lead time.
By the way, how can you take those rush orders without screwing up the
deliveries on your std lead time items?
One thing you might consider is to change you system to forward schedule
with finite loading. Then you simply run and manage the report showing when
things are likely to get done vs when you want them to get done.

Subject: [Vantage] Managing Orders Under Lead Time
One of the largest problems we face as a company is orders that are
requested to be manufactured under the quoted lead time. Although we
are working on ways to address this, it is something we have to deal
with at the time.
We use a custom Report Builder report, "Orders Without Comfirmed
Promise Ship Dates" to manage this aspect of the business.
It lists all jobs that do not have confirmed ship dates. The job
comments field is used to share information regarding material
availability and other issues that need to be resolved prior to
production.
The report is used as a communication tool between Purchasing,
Production Scheduling, and Account Management to provide customers
with a ship date.
This method is very cumbersome and the report averages 15 pages per
day. Each job has to be reviewed for material requirements and then
production capacity. A date is then given to Account Management so
that they can respond to the customer.
As you can see, we are not utilizing Vantage to the best of it's
ability. We need to find a way to automate this process. MRP works
fine for all of our "regular" orders.
Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.
