You are right. Vantage will automatically consolidate to the same chart numbers in the absence of specific mapping instructions. We actually made our accounts across all three companies identical to make it very easy.

I believe that if you enter all possible chart numbers in the Parent company
that you don't need to do a company by company specific account mapping.
In short, if the account exists in the subsidiary and the parent it will
automatically transfer when running the "consolidate to parent".
Of course, if you are combining different accounts into a summary account in the
parent you will need to map these specifically. However, when we created our
consolidation definitions we found it much easier to just populate the parent
company with all accounts and then summarize via the Financial Report writer.

This is a relatively straightforward exercise. But it's tedious because you have
to enter each company configuration and data unless you can get hold of a bullet
proof export/import utility or database genius. I just strung the major steps
here. You can get the detailed instructions from the Help Files.
1. Figure out the overall company structure and how you intend to deploy
Vantage. Are the individual locations trading independently (separate companies)
or will there be just a single Sales/Purchasing/Corporate Office with multiple
manufacturing locations (single company-multiple division/plants)? One single
database for all sites, or one Vantage installation/database for each site?
2. Add the companies in System Management/Configuration Maintenance. You
need to set-up one consolidating company (HQ company) plus all the operating
companies.
3. Configure the Companies. Try to keep the same G/L structure to keep
the consolidation mapping simple.
4. Map the child to parent accounts in Multisite management/Master
File/Consolidation Definition.
5. Set-up financial reports for the parent and each child company.
6. Consolidate to Parent or Import Consolidation from subsidiary as
applicable.
7. Print the financial reports for the parent and each child.
8. Pray.
We are currently have 3 companies (1 Consolidation + 2 operating on different
sites) on a single Vantage installation/database. The one requirement made by
the owner was that each site should be trading independently. We tested one
company-multiple plants and eventually figured out how to get the financial
results we needed. But it was too arcane and Epicor told us that very few people
went down that route given the "trading independently" condition.

I currently have version 5.10 and I was wondering if anyone has any
information on how to set up multiple companies in vantage. We are
manufacturing company that is going to be acquiring 5 more plants and we
want our HQ to be at the top of hierarchy and the new ones will be beneath.
Does anyone have any ideas or thoughts?
