Mass update Blank Title 63365

Bill,

We are increasinlgy using ServiceConnect for loading data into
Vantage, and the requirement you have would be very easy to handle.
We now load most new parts into the MPF via ServiceConnect, and also
include the primary Vendor, and the standard cost all in one go. This
is much better than trying to do each of the three steps manually. We
also use it if we want to make mass changes to MRP rules etc.

ServiceConnect is difficult to get your head around to start with (
the documentation regarding the web-services is terrible ), but it
has huge potential once you are up to speed.

ServiceConnect is definitely the way to go in this instance...

Does anyone know of a method to mass update the planning parameters? I need to update Planning Time Fence, Reschedule in delat, Reschedule out delat for around 7400 parts.

Also, I need to update Buyer on about 2600 parts.

Thanks much

I know on V8 and up, you can assign deltas by Part Class by Plant
instead of by individual part. You can of course, assign by part as
well.

It is in part class maintenance. Beware that using these deltas can
cause MRP to not generate accurate planned purchases, at least in our
experiments.

Write an odbc SQL query against PartPlant with criteria that returns the 7400 parts. Enable update (write) mode in your SQL editor and update the specific column values to what ever you desire.

Some editors support copy (say from excel) and paste/update of the entire column's. Others are 1 record at a time update only (but still MUCH faster than going through the Vantage app UI).

Unfortunately, I know of no Part Maintenance app with a grid view of multiple records selected. If you can some one knows of one and posts it, you could do a single paste/insert (that wpuld several hours of processing time to update 7400 records).

Long term, you should consider creating a pertinent Part Class schema (as Part Classes contain default planning related data). You could then simply update one or more Part Classes and get the results you desire.

BW gives good advice. If you go the part class route, resist the urge to immediately set high delats (even if you feel they are appropriate). Start with small deltas and thoroughly compare MRP suggestions/action messages as you slowly increase them.

You want to be sure you don't OVER filter and blind your planner/buyers - so as soon as you encounter a missed planning action resulting from over-filtering via larger deltas, you've gone too far.

As you incrementally increase deltas, take the time to track the reduction of messages at each change. You will also find diminishing returns after some point of increase (and might as well stop their before you begin to over-filter and blind yourself).

Epicor Professional Services sold us the Engineering Data Load Tool, which
allows us to load Parts, Revisions, BOMs, and Operations through a
spreadsheet interface. It uses Service Connect as its underlying
technology.

It's worth looking into, in my opinion.
