Mass update user defined fields?

Service connect can talk to the UD tables.

Wow,
Sounds like it is a little more than I am capable of at this point.
Thank you for the reply!

Generally speaking you should not update or change anything in Vantage
through ODBC, but as long as you are confidant that the only thing you are
touching are UD fields, then there shouldn't be a problem.

a way to do this I would like to build it into the customization prior to
deploying.

Does anyone know if it is possible to do a mass update of user defined fields?
We are looking to create some customizations in customer Maint and Ship to screens that will hold some special customer ranking information. It would be beneficial if we could mass update these fields using an Excell spreadsheet (similar to the "Customer/Contact Import" process). If there is a way to do this I would like to build it into the customization prior to deploying.

We are running V8.03.406A

Thank you,
Ken
Its possible, but not straight forward. I've done this two different ways.

One way is to use ODBC (or JDBC if you use something like Squirrel SQL. Generally speaking you should not update or change anything in Vantage through ODBC, but as long as you are confidant that the only thing you are touching are UD fields, then there shouldn't be a problem.

Another way is through 4GL code. You would have to create a "trigger" to run the code and then have it loop through your table updating the records using a updatetablebuffer call.
