Material Related to Operation

Todd we have the same issue, we run a report buider report to look for
JobMtl records with Operation field = 0 and fix them. Makes life a lot
simpler in report builder.

Doug Williams at Epicor responded off-list with the following:
----------
If a material is not specifically related to an operation then they are
"automatically" or "virtually" attached to the first operation because they
are due when the assembly starts (which is the first operation).

In other words, if the related material is zero(0) then it is assumed to be
the first operation - usually 10, but if an operation 5 was added later the
material would shift to that one since it was not specifically assigned to
10. If the related operation field was set to 10 then it would stay at 10
when operation 5 was added.
------------
But this does not help much if trying to link JobMtl to JobOper in a RB. My
feeling is the DB should be consistent with the rest of the screen behaviors
and RealatedOper in JobMtl should be updated with the then current "virtual"
attachment. Of course this would then freeze that attachment so adding
earlier operations would not longer have the material shift to them. I
don't know how to do a virtual, floating, link in RB.

It's the same on Version 5.0. I'm not 100% certain but I think
in version 5.2 you just drag and drop the material on the operation.

I am trying to link JobMatl.RelatedOperation to JobOper.OperSeq. 99% of the time this works and I can get the material usage for the job or operation. But I have some cases where Job Tracker shows an operation 10 with a material hanging under it but in the material section the Related Operation shows as zero. Like there is no link between the material and the operation it belongs to. But how does job tracker know that the material should "hang" under that operation (in tree view) if it is not related? I think somebody here is missing a step when they create the job but I'm not sure where that is or how to advise them. Or perhaps fallout from Engineering Workbench defects? Any ideas?

Thanks,

At least in Version 3.0, the related operation field is something that has
to be input at the time the material line is added to the job or job
assembly. When you first go into the entry screen, it defaults to 0.

We think we may have found it. In Engineering Workbench it allows you to add a material and set the related operation field to zero. No warning or error. Then jobs created from the BOM seem to inherit it. I don't have the whole track of events yet but as soon as it is reproducable I may have to call support to report a problem. Unless, of course, having material unrelated to an operation is now a "feature".
