Memory cache & Epicor 9 client performance

Sorry, just realized you were talking about Epicor 9 instead of Vantage 8. Maybe my comments still apply...I don't know.

You can right-click on the header of the Favorites bar and click Auto-Load Group and it will load only their favorites into cache upon login. This setting is stored in the table FavFolder.AutoLoadContents, if you have the ability to update tables programmatically. If you run terminal servers, keep an eye on system memory. Loading cache for all users could eat up resources. Individual clients on pc's would probably be ok.

In the options for a screen, I can turn on "Memory Cache" and it
improves the screen load time on the second load. Where is this setting
stored, and is it possible to turn it on automatically?

I also have a vague memory of some documentation or post that mentioned
a performance impact of adding a screen to your favourites, but can't
remember where. Can somebody refresh my memory?

First, I am not totally sure where it would be stored. I think it's actually
a personalization and I have no idea where those are stored in the DB.

However, it's something that should be treated carefully, and should
actually be set by the individual for their own needs, not setup system
wide.

Good Day Brian:

What do you mean by automatically?

Do it for ALL programs. You do not want to do that since it is
cached in the RAM and stays there until you log out.
On the other hand, using Task-Manager to look at the
memory, I found that not caching sometimes left just as much in memory -
depended on program.

There is also putting some on a special Favorites Menu - then you
can Right-click the menu and make it auto open all in it - Obviously you
want to be careful about how many programs you put on the menu; but if
you are going to open them any way, you can do it while you get a cup of
coffee. You can also combine the two and make your Auto-starts also
cache just in case you would close them during the day. Then just look
at you memory and see where you stand.

Sun was previously on M2K (Manage-2000) 7.0 SP 5 (Informix)

Rather than turning it on for all screens and all users, it may be more wise to turn it on only for users favorites.
