Merant ODBC Driver/ADO problem

Yup. I'm doing some ADO development in visual basic myself. I haven't even
got the 3.6 driver to work with crystal or excel, so haven't even tried
accessing it through my own code, and don't have the 3.5 driver.

Right now I'm sticking with the approach of retrieving records with 4GL,
dumping them to the hard drive in delimited files. In the process of my
MCSD self study, I'm going through tutorials to creating my ADO data source
for the delimited files, after which I will eliminate the file on disk and
use some sort of in-memory buffer to hold the temporary data, thus reducing
the hard drive bottle neck.

All this to bypass ODBC.

an interesting snippet from an e-mail conversation with myself and a
progress developer on api@....

[ME]
>> ODBC is an option, but not the most stable, at least not in my 9.1A/sql92
>> setup.

[HIM]
>SQL92 was never supported in that release. It was not a commercial
>product at that time.

>> I operating through a query-only license against a third party database,
and
>> they shipped us the sql92 ODBC driver with their application which is
built
>> on 9.1a. I've had nothing but trouble.

>Correct. It is a product that was not completed at that time. SQL92
>did not work at that time, and PSC said so....
>As I said, the lowest working version we have found is 9.1C03.
[END SNIPPET]

It looks like the solution is to use the downrev merant 3.5 driver for our
downrev 9.1a version of progress.

Subject: [Vantage] Merant ODBC Driver/ADO problem

I've written an application which accesses a database (Progress
5.00) , using ADO thru an
ODBC driver (Merant 3.6 for Progress).

I'm getting an error message when attempting to open Recordsets
, my ADO connection seems to be fine.

ERROR : ODBC Driver does not support requested properties

This program works well with the Merant ver 3.5 ODBC Driver.

Anyone else experience anything similar, concerning the 3.6
version driver?

Thank you,
Bill jackson
