That's very interesting. Similarly we record heat tracking numbers for
raw materials at receipt entry like you. We are slightly blessed in
that we do not currently have any regulatory requirements for
traceability but several of our customers require that we can trace
components and/or assemblies to a particular receipt of raw material
should there be an issue. While we do not serialize we record at the
job level what particular heat number (for plate steel) was used in that
process (typically laser, plasma, oxy-fuel). Service connect helps us
with this in that it integrates vantage with our third party nesting
software which also has heat/lot tracking and is synchronized with our
inventory in vantage. Are you using stock serialization from vantage or
did you come up with a unique solution for that as well?

Rob,
My scenario is:
Our raw material receipts have lot numbers entered at receipt entry;
then
when we mix the raw materials we have to create a new batch/lot # for
regulatory purposes traceable back to original lots. On top of that when
that mixed batch/lot is used to make a component -- that component is
serialized and we need to record the SN of the component when the qty
completed, scrap, etc is entered through MES.
Thanks for your insights.

Vantage does have native lot control functionality but it also comes
with some baggage that may be more weight than benefit for some. In our
case it was that when lot tracking (such as using lot number to track
heat numbers or PED with steel) you can no longer issue that item by
backflush method. So we developed our own low budget method.

Rob B. gave me a good suggestion last week on this group thread:
"[Vantage] Lot Numbers in reported MES quantities for medical products"
It does require a MES customization plus the use of a UD table.
