MES setup Blank Title 80466

It already has windows on it....I'm wiping out all the other programs
installed on it and keeping only what they may need like adobe reader.

There will be no printers on it, I'm going to prevent access to the web
on it, etc, etc...

Plus these computers are so old (7 years or older) I have to use them
for something!

And we are a welding shop...so they will die in a year because of the
welding dust and then I can get my little thin clients!

Yes I am a proud manipulator!

I would be looking for a super light LINUX that does nothing more than
have
the TCPIP protocols a little keyboard and mouse support and a RDP client
before I blast a fill blown windows install on there.

And I would love to do that because I did that in the past, but I am not
allowed to buy any new equipment. :(

So now I get to use an old computer, wipe it clean, and set it up
accordingly. Thank god I only have to do this to two computers!

On mes we alter the Config file so that it auto logins in and then we
set
the execution command to go out and get that config file. We use HP thin
Clients to RDP to a Terminal Server and they fire a command that
launches
MES and nothing else.

Im sure there are many ways to get a computer to boot up with a user ID
automatically, we downloaded a small app from Microsoft called tweak UI
that does the job fairly well... Setting MES up on any computer is
really just a straight forward client install with the correct shortcuts
in the appropriate places (or start up folder to go along with
autologin).

It's been a long time since I have done this. Does anyone have
instructions to set up MES on a computer? We are on Vista 8.0.

Also, do you remember how to set up a computer to (with XP Pro) boot up
with a particular user id?

Thanks!

I don't think there is any difference between MES and regular Vantage set up - only diff being the short used to open it.
Take a look at your regualr Vatnage shortcut, and add /MES at end of the command line.
If your short cut is "C:\client\MfgSys.exe" change it to "C:\client\MfgSys.exe /MES"

if you want a machine to always boot to same account,

copy and paste the below to notepad and save it as a file with extension .reg
Then run the file from the machine (by run, I mean just double-click it)
There are probably lots of ways to do this through AD, but I moved out of systems admin just about time that AD was hitting things. I moved full time in to ERP manager. But I'm not bitter.

Once you've done this, you will need to hold the Shift key down during bootup to prevent the autologon and let you log on as someone else.

Replace "LOT" with your domain.
And replace "datauser" with your username and password.
