Sorry, I should elaborate on this a bit.

When I mentioned that I removed the Start Menu from the computer, I
meant
that I removed access for the Shop User that I have setup on our domain.
So
the user does not have a Start Button.

This has been a life saver for us.

Assuming you have a separate username for each MES, you can uncheck
"allow multiple sessions" on the security tab of the user record. Single
sign on is something entirely different but is also very useful for MES
stations. Help files can explain SSO better than I if more info is
needed there.

Without separate user for each MES, I'm not sure.

Look over in the Files for a vb script that replaces the shortcut. I've used it for several years and it works great. (I modified it to not popup) If you can't find it I can forward it on to you.

We do exactly this as well, and I recommend it. Our shop floor
terminals are mix of ancient Windows, Linux and Wyse terminals (to a
terminal server), and for all, the instructions are exactly the same:
press the power button.
