Modify project job required by date

Is there a way to modify the required by date field on a project job?

We have a project job (linked to project header, not within any WBS phase) that was originally set with a required by date of the project end date. We’ve since updated the project end date, but the required by date is not updating to match and is greyed out from editing.

Now whenever we try to reschedule specific operations through job scheduling board a warning pops up stating that the new schedule will not meet the required by date.

Any tips on what to do here?

That field shouldn’t be grayed out…

Req By

Specifies the date either on which this part quantity is needed, or by when you want to complete production on this job. A required field, enter the date that you need. If you need, click the Down Arrow and select a different date from the calendar. Show Me

This date value is used as the default date for ; this method calculates the job’s Start Date. For example:

Definition:

Backward Scheduling - A scheduling method where you use a job’s Due Date to calculate when the job should begin. The scheduling engine uses the Required Date and subtracts the Receive days to get the Due Date. The Due Date is used as the end point; the job’s operation date intervals are then added together (or evaluated together if they are concurrent operations) to calculate the Start Date.

  • 05/15/08

Important: Do not confuse the Req By date with the scheduled Start or Due dates. The Start and Due dates are calculated through the scheduling process and will change as you reschedule the job. The Required By date does not change through the scheduling process; it remains fixed for your reference. If you need, however, you can enter a different date in this field. To learn more, review the Start Date and Due Date field definitions.

Thanks Terry!

On regular jobs I know this field is not grey and can be modified, but seems to be stuck on project jobs. The behavior I’m seeing is that the job sets the required by date based on the project end date, and then can never be modified thereafter, even if I change the project end date. I’ll attach a screenshot showing how the field is greyed out.

I know I can re-schedule the job using the start/due date and working forwards/backwards. Just annoying that we can’t push out the required by date to match.

It isn’t gray for us… maybe it is a Kinetic screen issue? I haven’t pushed our job entry customizations to browser yet.

What you’re showing is a manufacturing job (see the Type field). Project jobs it is grayed out on.

Unfortunately, there is not a way to reschedule the project job, however you can reschedule WBS Phase jobs by doing the following in Project Entry:

  1. Un-Release and Un-Engineer the Phase job (if you don’t allow changes to Engineered job, otherwise skip)

  2. Click the Remove Schedule button

  3. Update the Due Date

  4. Note: the hours on the operation(s) will impact the ability to meet that date; when you reschedule in the last step it will use those hours in the backward scheduling, much like the standard hours do with manufacturing jobs; updating the hours on the phase details will not update the hours on the job operation(s)

  5. After updating the Due Date, re-Release and re-Engineer the job

  6. Click Schedule Job

  7. Re-enter the Due Date and click OK to reschedule and update the due date

Ah sorry misunderstood. And I had forgotten that I’d made this customization on project entry… probably due to having similar issues a long time ago. lol.
