Modifying MRP - copart situation

How many here have ever modified the MRP processing? How big of a doozy am I in for?

We have an issue caused because co-parts doesn’t work for our needs (can’t report scrap on individual parts).
We have a mold which can produce for example 4 part numbers = A, B ,C, D

If we get demand for part A and build 100 pieces of A, we inevitably build 100 of B,C,D as well. Can I modify the MRP to add parts B, C, D as asm to my job automatically? I will write all the code underneath to make the relationships between the parts which is pretty straightforward. But what about the actual modification of the MRP?

Note, if an order of 100 part C is built, A,B,D are also required. Etc, etc.

The additional parts will consume material according to their BOM BUT will not use any additional resources.

I have considered a work around - making a top level part per mold that holds all those assemblies. In this case, I would have to change MRP to schedule the toplevel part when it detects the A,B,C,D demand.

Is there an easier way? Thoughts and condolences are welcome.

ps
I would add that my mold is included on every bom as a material.

Hi,
I can’t help answer this question but was searching for the answer to a similar one  We have a tool that always makes the same 3 parts. We had looked at co-parts but need to be able to report scrap on them. I was hoping to find out that this was fixed in 10 (we are going live in November). One of our engineers suggested a phantom but I couldn’t think where the demand for the phantom would come from.
