Modifying RB Database Location

The path has NOTHING to do with which DB it connects to (at least running
client / server - I dunno about stand alone.) In fact, you can omit the
db\ part all together and just have "vantage" in there. It only has to
match the DB name itself.

Which DB you connect to is determined by the "service name" specified, or
actually the TCP port number that you're connecting to, and that the server
listens on.

Note that Vantage overrides the database when it launches the reports, so
the reports always connect to the current DB. If you have a test system
setup, you'll notice reports run from there access its data, even if the
service is specified as "Vantage" in the report builder. If you want the
hard core techie info, read the "R.B. Deployment Guide" or check the source
code to one of the programs on the web site that calls the report engine.

Upgrading from 4 to 5.0 where the DB name doesn't change, your reports
should run OK and connect to the 5.0 DB with no changes required to the
name or service.

Some have suggested changing the Database Location on Report Builder reports to simply "db\vantage.db".

Question: How does RB know which database to run the report from if I have two databases installed?

In my case:

Vantage 5.0 is located in f:\epic50\vantage\db\vantage.db (Mapped at N:\vantage\db\vantage.db)
Vantage 5.1 is located in f:\epic51\vantage\db\vantage.db (Mapped at L:\vantage\db\vantage.db)
I have two versions of Report Builder reports - each residing in the "vantage\ud" folder of their respective versions.

Does the version of report builder that I start (5.0 or 5.1) determine which database a report will look at, or is it the physical location of the report itself that determines the database directory?

The database path is embedded in the .prl file, and is sometimes difficult
to change. However, I think when the report is launched from vantage, it
launches it to the current vantage database, but of that I am not sure.
Don't use RB much anymore.

Sorry, Troy. I have never had two versions running at once, so I can't
comment on that. Perhaps the service name specifies? But, what if the
service name is kept the same...Don't know...
One thing that may work is to copy the report files to the 5.1 location
(you've probably done that already), shut down the 5.0 database. If the PRL
files in the 5.1 directory are referencing the 5.0 DB, you'll get an error,
and will be prompted to change the settings.
