Thanks guys, we have Nagios so I setup a test to monitor AppServer ports and that does what I needed it to do.

I've been a fan of Servers Alive (http://www.woodstone.nu/salive/). It has
extensive monitoring and alerting functions. Haven't used it for this
specific function but I'd be very surprised if it didn't do it.

I haven't used it in awhile but I think you could probably configure Nagios
to watch your ports or services. It will alert you in real time when
something is down.

Hi all,

Has anyone come across a way where an alert email could be generated if an AppServer were to not start or fail? Does the appserver create a special file or service when it is running?

Thanks for any input,

-Ted
What version are you on?

We're on 8.03.404B & I haven't run across anything like this, but I'm relatively new myself. I know we're using Progress Explorer on our Vantage server and I can actively monitor. Can't speak to more recent releases, but I've seen the app servers shut themselves off, or at least appear to. Our first indication is usually that end users lose the app. Again though, I've seen the app server tell me it's down but users are still running Vantage fine.

Not sure if telnet will do it but in . Net is trivial

We have a program that opens a telnet session with the service appserver:9401 etc, and checks for a response. If no response it's either dead, failed, or not running.

You'd can just try to connect to epicor on the app server port if it
doesn't respond ifs not running.
