Move Progress to SQL

Vic's right. You can probably really put the screws to them and get a great deal right now.

I have no doubt they play the same legal shell game big retailers & the auto industry play: They book the sale at full price now (even though you don't pay it) and defer the discount 'cost of sales' hit to a future period.

Yes.

Call Epicor, pay for it and put the onus on them.

You do not want this burden. It's extremely convoluted and

undocumented.

I'm sure you could get a heck of a deal with an "end of year incentive".

It's a fairly detailed process that is not directly documented, and I would
probably suggest going through Epicor to get it done.

Technically you could probably map SQL to Progress through an ODBC or other
method, but probably not something you would want to venture into on your
own without backup.

Just curious why you were thinking of going from Progress to SQL?

I'm curious also. Why would you move from Progress to SQL?

Vantage/Vista still uses a Progress code layer even on SQL server installs... Can't believe that added translation layer doesn't impact performance (or perhaps even limit features as, knowing Epicor, the translation layer is probably only 95% complete - like everything else in Vantage!).

If all you want to do is MIRROR a progress db to sql server, there are several products out there. This one is from Progress itself:

http://www.progress.com/dataxtend/dataxtend_re/index.ssp

The value of mirroring is it then frees you to break away from the push paradigm of internal (to Vantage) BAQexport to xml for simple read only querying. The near real time mirrored data (on sql server) can then be hit to your heart's content with 'old fashioned' odbc/sql queries without causing performance issues on the live progress system.
