MRP Job number length

Hi

when a Job is created by the MRP process, the job is created with a 14-length characters (my prefix + balance of the total length)

I am trying to reduce that number.
I know there is a length field in Company Configuration, but the Length is only used when you use the Next Job numbering, not the MRP process.

I try different options and still the same
before the number was smaller, something changes few months ago (don’t ask because I don’t know)

Thank for your help

I assume this is more of a visual issue than a real “problem”, right? If so, I doubt it will be worth the effort to write anything to fix this (if it is even feasible). You can enter an enhancement ticket with support though .

Hi Jason

This is a real problem for my client. If it’s an Epicor issue they will know but some time it’s faster here to get an answer, but since before it has a shorter length and whitout any “writing” something it change, I am wondering where the modificatrion can be done.

What about it is a problem maybe there is another way to attack it?

MRP creates unfirm jobs - these are typically much longer than the configured job number length, and different starting number from what is configured in Company Config.

Once you “firm” an unfirm job, it takes the next available “proper” job number - which is in the format you see in Company config.

Unfirm jobs normally have a different prefix, I’ve not tried to set the firm and unfirm job prefix to both be the same. (M in your case). Not sure whether it would let you or not.

In this what you’re observing by chance?

Hi Mark

Usually it will work like that, I don’t know if it will make a different but they set up the Auto Firm Horizon (Under Site Maintenance - Detail > Planning), so no unfirm job for a short period of time on the MRP process.

Basically, I am just wondering how to change the length of the job number. As mentioned, before they had a shorter job number, now it’s the full 14 character.(see image on first post).

Thank you,

philippe

Understood but what is there problem with the length of the MRP job number that might be resolved another way?

Your screenshot doesn’t show the full Job Number - unless it’s a custom dashboard and M0000000000012 is repeated lots of times?

On Job Entry, just compare one of the short ones with one of the long ones. Is one firm, and one not?

Hi Mark, oops sorry

image

the first 3 digits are the prefix M00

Philippe

And what is the firm/unfirm status of those jobs?

Mark

all Firm job

-under Site Maintenance - Detail > Planning - the Auto Firm Horizon has a value
-when the MRP run it creates Firm job for that time period

The differences between the long and short number are, in Marsh it was a short number, now they are long (full 14 characters). my client doesn’t know what change, the only thing was maybe an Epicor Update.

now running Epicor 10.2.300.20

after a long time from Epicor and still not answer…except…as design.
