I think you could also submit the MRP to a schedule. Then with a UBAQ change the logging parameters on the scheduled task to what you actually want.

Would running MRP as part of a scheduled process set theoretically work the same as the function approach?

That’s how we run MRP and get logging but it was scheduled years ago so YMMV
I did test this but now don’t remember the outcome. I think it was fine when submitted via Process Set. Ours has been scheduled for years so I didn’t have to worry, yet.
This process works but with a caveat.
The log is produced but is completely blank.
